Chapter 0387
โWhy did you sell that child to Humans?โ
My gaze shifts to Lucas Adler. Back then, I felt no remorse for what I did to his daughter. It was pure retaliation. I had no issue tormenting someone that way. It simply had to be done. Nowโฆ Now I see the cruelty. I killed a mother and her unborn pup in the process. She wasnโt the first. I took a child without hesitation and handed her to the vilest beings on Earth. Humans.
โBecause Iโm a monster.โ I whisper. I had become so vicious without ever pausing to reflect until this moment. I nod at both of them. โI deserve death. I just want to know when.โ
Alexander glances over his shoulder at Lucas, who gives a slight nod.
โAthena will decide that.โ Alexander states. โThough personally, Iโd love to let my Wolves hunt you.โ
Being torn apart while still alive wasnโt something to anticipate. I started wishing there had been poison in that cup.
Alexander crouches down in front of me. โI want you to extract every bit of information you can from Evelyn.โ
I still couldnโt believe she had betrayed me. Everything she said and did seemed genuine. But now, after everything Athena revealed, I see it clearly. Evelyn was nothing but a liar.
โIโll try.โ
โYouโll do more than try. Your life depends on it.โ Lucas snarls.
โRight.โ I lower my eyes. โAnd if I donโt?โ
โI think you know the answer.โ Lucas replies.
โSo youโll kill me if I fail, and you might still kill me even if I succeed.โ
โCorrect.โ Lucas smiles coldly. โGlad we understand each other.โ
Alexander unties my hands and pulls a protein bar from his pocket. โEat. If youโre going to do this, I canโt have you starving.โ His tone is empty. I doubt heโd care if I starved. Iโm just a pawn in his game. For now, that means I get to live.
He unwraps it and hands it to me. โMove.โ
I stand up. He removes the chair from the cell. Lucas swings the door shut and turns the lock. I take a small bite of the bar and stash the rest in my pocket. Who knows when Iโll eat again.
โWait, what exactly do you want me to find out?โ
โUse your brain.โ Lucas smirks. โYouโve done this before. It shouldnโt be hard to figure out.โ
Iโm left in the dark. Itโs shocking to realize how blind Humans are without light. Evelyn had let me sleep with a light on for comfort. The night we left, street lamps lit the road. But here, I can barely see my own hand in front of my face.
The dungeon door eventually opens. Rays of sunlight briefly illuminate the space. I see Evelyn before I see Zachary. Her hands are bound, just like mine were. Zacharyโs dark eyes find mine and narrow.
He shoves Evelyn into the cell opposite mine. She keeps her head down, but I can see sheโs been crying. Fake tears? Iโm not sure. Iโve never seen her truly cry.
As he locks her cell, Evelyn slides down the wall to the floor. I still canโt see how she might be a Lycan, but Athena said they can smell her. โAre you okay?โ I ask softly once Zachary leaves. He left the light on. Was that for my benefit?
โWe have to get out of here, Seraphina! You were right. We never should have come.โ
โWhat did Athena say to you?โ
โShe asked me about Levi. I told her what I know, but I donโt think she cares. I thought she was supposed to be a great Alpha.โ
โI guess sheโs just being cautious.โ I sigh.
โYou werenโt in there as long as I was.โ She stares at her lap.
โMaybe she just doesnโt want to listen to me.โ I mutter, frowning. โMaybe she thought you might know more. I guess now we just wait.โ
โScrew that. Iโm finding a way out of here.โ
