Chapter 0387

โ€œWhy did you sell that child to Humans?โ€

My gaze shifts to Lucas Adler. Back then, I felt no remorse for what I did to his daughter. It was pure retaliation. I had no issue tormenting someone that way. It simply had to be done. Nowโ€ฆ Now I see the cruelty. I killed a mother and her unborn pup in the process. She wasnโ€™t the first. I took a child without hesitation and handed her to the vilest beings on Earth. Humans.

โ€œBecause Iโ€™m a monster.โ€ I whisper. I had become so vicious without ever pausing to reflect until this moment. I nod at both of them. โ€œI deserve death. I just want to know when.โ€

Alexander glances over his shoulder at Lucas, who gives a slight nod.

โ€œAthena will decide that.โ€ Alexander states. โ€œThough personally, Iโ€™d love to let my Wolves hunt you.โ€

Being torn apart while still alive wasnโ€™t something to anticipate. I started wishing there had been poison in that cup.

Alexander crouches down in front of me. โ€œI want you to extract every bit of information you can from Evelyn.โ€

I still couldnโ€™t believe she had betrayed me. Everything she said and did seemed genuine. But now, after everything Athena revealed, I see it clearly. Evelyn was nothing but a liar.

โ€œIโ€™ll try.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ll do more than try. Your life depends on it.โ€ Lucas snarls.

โ€œRight.โ€ I lower my eyes. โ€œAnd if I donโ€™t?โ€

โ€œI think you know the answer.โ€ Lucas replies.

โ€œSo youโ€™ll kill me if I fail, and you might still kill me even if I succeed.โ€

โ€œCorrect.โ€ Lucas smiles coldly. โ€œGlad we understand each other.โ€

Alexander unties my hands and pulls a protein bar from his pocket. โ€œEat. If youโ€™re going to do this, I canโ€™t have you starving.โ€ His tone is empty. I doubt heโ€™d care if I starved. Iโ€™m just a pawn in his game. For now, that means I get to live.

He unwraps it and hands it to me. โ€œMove.โ€

I stand up. He removes the chair from the cell. Lucas swings the door shut and turns the lock. I take a small bite of the bar and stash the rest in my pocket. Who knows when Iโ€™ll eat again.

โ€œWait, what exactly do you want me to find out?โ€

โ€œUse your brain.โ€ Lucas smirks. โ€œYouโ€™ve done this before. It shouldnโ€™t be hard to figure out.โ€

Iโ€™m left in the dark. Itโ€™s shocking to realize how blind Humans are without light. Evelyn had let me sleep with a light on for comfort. The night we left, street lamps lit the road. But here, I can barely see my own hand in front of my face.

The dungeon door eventually opens. Rays of sunlight briefly illuminate the space. I see Evelyn before I see Zachary. Her hands are bound, just like mine were. Zacharyโ€™s dark eyes find mine and narrow.

He shoves Evelyn into the cell opposite mine. She keeps her head down, but I can see sheโ€™s been crying. Fake tears? Iโ€™m not sure. Iโ€™ve never seen her truly cry.

As he locks her cell, Evelyn slides down the wall to the floor. I still canโ€™t see how she might be a Lycan, but Athena said they can smell her. โ€œAre you okay?โ€ I ask softly once Zachary leaves. He left the light on. Was that for my benefit?

โ€œWe have to get out of here, Seraphina! You were right. We never should have come.โ€

โ€œWhat did Athena say to you?โ€

โ€œShe asked me about Levi. I told her what I know, but I donโ€™t think she cares. I thought she was supposed to be a great Alpha.โ€

โ€œI guess sheโ€™s just being cautious.โ€ I sigh.

โ€œYou werenโ€™t in there as long as I was.โ€ She stares at her lap.

โ€œMaybe she just doesnโ€™t want to listen to me.โ€ I mutter, frowning. โ€œMaybe she thought you might know more. I guess now we just wait.โ€

โ€œScrew that. Iโ€™m finding a way out of here.โ€
