Chapter 84

Evelyn's chopsticks froze midair.

She lifted her gaze to her parents, a sharp glint flashing in her eyes.

"Mom, Dad, are you hiding something from me?"

Edward and Sophia exchanged a glance, realizing the jig was up.

"Sweetheart, we just can't stand how the Lowells have treated you," Sophia said, squeezing her daughter's hand. "They must face consequences."

Edward nodded in agreement. "The Valdemars are supporting our efforts."

Evelyn shook her head gently.

She wasn't some fragile flower needing parental protection.

"I want to handle this myself."

Her voice was soft but carried unshakable resolve.

The private investigator she'd asked Dylan to contact earlier should have already delivered the message to the Lowells.

The game had only just begun.

"Gratitude for raising me?" A cold smile curled her lips. "I remember Grandpa Charles's kindness. But as for the others... I'll settle each debt one by one."

Sophia stared at her daughter in astonishment.

She'd never imagined such steel in Evelyn's heart.

"Very well. We'll follow your lead," Edward finally conceded.

The business world was in an uproar.

News of the Valdemars and Rolands jointly pressuring the Lowells spread like wildfire.

Former partners scrambled to distance themselves.

Vincent Lowell frantically dialed number after number, hitting wall after wall.

"Should we ask the Evans family for help?" Margaret suggested. "After all, Victoria and Nathan are still engaged."

Before she finished speaking, the butler rushed in.

"Sir! The Evans family just calledโ€”they're terminating the engagement!"

Vincent's face drained of color.

Meanwhile, Nathan Evans listened impatiently to the sobs on the other end of the line.

"Nathan, how could you be so cruel?" Victoria wept hysterically.

"Let's part amicably," Nathan replied coldly.

"I'm pregnant!"

Nathan shot to his feet.

"What did you say?"

"I'm carrying your child!" Victoria shrieked. "Would the Evans family dare abandon their own blood?"

A loud thud came through the phone.

Then Margaret's scream pierced the air: "Victoria! Victoria, what's wrong?"
