Chapter 21

Olivia Valdemar recognized Evelyn Roland at first glance, her voice trembling with excitement. "It's you!"

She grabbed Sebastian Valdemar's arm. "She's the one! If she hadn't intervened that day, the baby might have—"

Olivia rushed forward, clasping Evelyn's hands tightly. "What a coincidence! I'm Olivia Valdemar, this guy's older sister."

Tears of gratitude shimmered in her eyes. "Everything happened so fast that day. I never got the chance to properly thank you."

"Is there anything I can do for you? Just name it."

Evelyn calmly withdrew her hands and took half a step back. "It was nothing, Ms. Valdemar. Please don't dwell on it."

She lifted the file folder in her hand. "I was just delivering documents. Now that my task is done, I should be going."

As she turned, Evelyn exhaled quietly in relief. Thank goodness Olivia had shown up—otherwise, that damned birthmark secret would have been exposed.

The atmosphere in the office grew tense.

Sebastian's icy voice cut through the air. "Stop."

He strode forward, closing the distance between them. "Why are you refusing the examination? Guilty conscience?"

Olivia immediately stepped between them. "What examination? Sebastian, have you lost your mind?"

She shot her brother a reproachful look. "This woman saved my life. Is this how you treat her?"

For a moment, she'd thought her brother had finally come to his senses. But no—still the same cold, unapproachable man.

Olivia sighed inwardly. At this rate, the Valdemar family line might end with him.

"Stay out of this, Olivia." Sebastian's gaze locked onto Evelyn over his sister's shoulder. "I just want an answer."

A flicker of irritation crossed Evelyn's eyes. Why was this man so damn persistent?

Suddenly, her expression shifted. She ducked timidly behind Olivia. "Ms. Valdemar, your brother seems to think I stole something..."

Sebastian stiffened.

Stole something? She had some nerve.

Olivia's temper flared. "Is Valdemar Group's security system just for show? You're accusing a young woman of theft?"

"She stole my—" Sebastian bit back the words.

How could he possibly say, in front of his sister, that this woman had taken his virginity?
