Chapter 387

"Alice, that man won't bother you again." Evelyn Roland tapped the table lightly with her fingertips. "The compensation for emotional distress will be transferred soon."

Alice's eyes reddened. "Thank you, Evelyn."

Evelyn suddenly leaned in, her gaze sharp as a blade sweeping over Alice's face.

"One more favor."

A dangerous glint flashed in her eyes, yet it warmed Alice's heart. No matter how piercing that girl's stare was, it would never harm her.

Meanwhile, Isabella Langley paced restlessly in her room. Her phone screen dimmed and brightened repeatedly, but Oliver Valrose's reply never came.

"What's going on..." She gnawed at her nails before finally bolting toward the front courtyard.

A scream pierced the air.

Isabella froze mid-step, her pupils contracting. The ground was now crawling with a dense swarm of insectsโ€”white, black, squirming, armoredโ€”advancing like a tidal wave.

"Ah!"

She jerked back as a plump larva clung to her shoe. Her back hit a pillar, only to discover more black insects pouring from the cracks in the wall.

"Help..."

The business tycoons were in chaos. Some slapped at the ants on their bodies, others scratched at their inflamed skin. The abbot's robe was covered in cockroaches, while devotees screamed and fled in all directions.

"Miss Langley!" Someone grabbed her sleeve. "Do something!"

Isabella forced herself to stay calm. "Everyone, don't panic. These insectsโ€”"

Before she could finish, a spider crawled up her calf. Then came a searing painโ€”three red ants had sunk their pincers into her ankle.

"Dad! Mom!"

The Roland family rushed toward the commotion but halted abruptly at the edge of the insect swarm. Strangely, the creatures avoided them entirely.

"The herbal formula!" the abbot suddenly shouted. "They have insect repellent! There are more ingredients in the monastery courtyard!"

All eyes locked onto the four Rolands. An invisible barrier seemed to surround them, the swarm parting to form an eerie vacuum.

Isabella gasped in pain, watching her parents and brother standing untouched amidst the chaos. That realization chilled her far more than any insect bite.
