Chapter 36

The crystal chandelier refracted dazzling light across the cheerful scene in the Roland family's parlor.

"Evelyn's recent performance reminds me of my younger self." Edward Roland took a sip of dragon well tea, satisfaction evident in his eyes.

Evelyn lowered her lashes, fingertips tracing the rim of her teacup. "You flatter me, Father. I still have much to learn."

"Mom, Dad, I'm home!" Isabella Langley fluttered into the room like a sparrow and nestled beside Sophia. "What are you talking about?"

Sophia set down her cup, gaze shifting between her daughters. "We were discussing your sister's latest major contract. Isabella, you should learn from her." She emphasized the last words deliberately.

"I'll definitely seek guidance from Alexander and Evelyn." Isabella's smile was radiant, but a shadow flickered in her eyes.

She tilted her head suddenly. "Why don't I intern at the company too? Now that I've graduated, it's time to gain experience." Her almond-shaped eyes sparkled with anticipation as she looked at her parents.

Edward exchanged a glance with his wife before laughing heartily. "Excellent! Young people should challenge themselves. Report tomorrow."

"Thank you!" Isabella clapped her hands, though her peripheral vision remained fixed on Evelyn's reaction.

Evelyn lifted her teacup calmly, steam obscuring her expression. She knew her sister's games all too wellโ€”but this time, she wouldn't retreat.

The next morning, KL Design Group CEO's office.

Sebastian Valdemar had barely stepped inside, his suit jacket still unbuttoned, when he pressed the intercom.

"Theodore. Now."

Outside, Theodore adjusted his tie, Adam's apple bobbing nervously. The CEO's stormy expression was darker than gathering thunderclouds.

"You summoned me, Mr. Valdemar?"

Sebastian stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows, his ramrod posture radiating icy intensity. "Terminate all collaborations with the Evans and Lowell families. Immediately."

Theodore's pupils constricted. "But sir, those projects account for 15% of our quarterly revenue. The penalty clauses aloneโ€”"

"I said terminate." Sebastian turned, his gaze sharp as a blade. "Need I repeat myself?"

The office temperature plummeted. A cold sweat trickled down Theodore's spine.
