Chapter 433
The glass door of the laboratory slid open silently.
Evelyn Roland stood at the entrance, scanning the room before striding purposefully toward the workbench.
The data screen still glowed faintly. Her fingers traced across its surface, then suddenly paused with a frown. She grabbed a pen and scribbled several formulas into the lab notebook before turning to adjust the reagents on the test tube rack.
"Done."
Unnoticed in the shadows, Scarlett Galatea held up her phone, recording every movement with trembling fingers.
Click.
A distant clatter of equipment made Scarlett flinch. She hastily locked her screen and slipped out along the wall, pressing herself flat against the corridor outside.
Gasping for breath, she leaned against the hallway corner, her chest heaving. Only when she confirmed no one had followed did she allow herself to exhale.
"Miss Galatea?"
Two hulking figures loomed over her. Daniel and David Murphy tilted their heads in unison, confusion written across their faces.
"N-nothing's wrong..."
The researchers exchanged glances at her pale face and evasive manner. Shrugging, they turned to leave.
"Wait!"
Scarlett's sudden call stopped them.
The brothers turned back, puzzled.
"The lab..." Scarlett bit her lip, her phone burning against her palm. "There's something..."
"What is it?" David stomped impatiently. "We're on a tight schedule!"
Scarlett took a deep breath. "I'm not sure you can handle this."
Daniel frowned. "Spit it out."
"Promise you won't tell anyone." Scarlett lowered her voice. "This is critical."
The brothers thumped their chests in assurance.
Only then did Scarlett unlock her phone. The video showed Evelyn flipping through experimental data and altering formula ratios.
"That's impossible!" Daniel snatched the phone.
David stared at the screen, his face draining of color. "Our core data..."
They charged back into the lab. The data board now bore unfamiliar handwriting, and the reagent bottles had been rearranged.
"Report this to Mr. Valdemar immediately."
Ten minutes later, the lab blazed with light.
Sebastian Valdemar appeared in the doorway, with Evelyn following calmly behind him.
