Chapter 306
"Julian, let's go upstairs and rest."
Evelyn spoke softly, her fingers lightly tugging at Julian Roland's sleeve.
The man's stern expression instantly softened when he turned to his sister, the ice in his eyes melting into warmth.
"Mhm."
He glanced back at Sebastian Valdemar, his tone still distant. "Excuse us."
The sight of the siblings walking away side by side burned in Sebastian's vision.
Vincent Valdemar observed everything without a word.
Only when the Roland siblings disappeared around the staircase did he stroll over to his nephew.
"Don't take it personally." Vincent patted Sebastian's shoulder. "It's natural for Julian to be hostile toward you."
"I understand."
Sebastian lowered his gaze, his fingers absently tracing the rim of his teacup.
"Patience is key when pursuing a woman." Vincent smiled kindly. "It's been years since I last visited. Join me for dinner?"
In the private dining room, Vincent casually remarked,
"Julian holds considerable influence in the military, doesn't he?"
"The Grim Reaper." Sebastian offered a terse assessment. "A tactical genius."
A glint flashed in Vincent's eyes. "Yet he's gentle with his sister."
"The Roland brothers are infamous sister-con."
Sebastian's reply made Vincent's lips curve almost imperceptibly.
"Are you acquainted with the third Roland son?"
"No."
The answer clearly pleased Vincent.
"Does Uncle have business with him?"

"Just making conversation." Vincent deftly changed the subject. "The Roland heirs are all exceptional."
The timely arrival of their meal interrupted the undercurrents of their discussion.
"Have a drink with me."
Vincent pushed a glass toward his nephew.
"I'm not feeling well."
Sebastian declined politely, lifting his teacup instead.
Unperturbed, Vincent drained his glass alone.
