Chapter 218

"This certificate is forged."

"How dare you say that?!"

Evelyn Roland tapped the paper with her fingertip, a cold smile curling her lips. "It doesnโ€™t even have the most basic detailsโ€”no name of the certification agency, no official seal, no signature. Did you think a blank sheet would fool anyone?"

Fiona Valentineโ€™s face paled.

Her plan had been to hastily forge a document and destroy it later. In the chaos, who would notice such details?

But Evelyn had seen right through it.

"My poisoning is real!" Fiona quickly pulled out another document. "The hospital report has a seal. You can verify itโ€”"

Before she could finish, her eyes widened. She staggered backward and collapsed.

"Fiona!"

She hit the ground hard, vomiting violently. Her freshly manicured nails dug deep into Evelynโ€™s arm.

"Call an ambulance!"

Evelyn swiftly laid her flat and began chest compressions. One, two...

For a fleeting moment, she saw the girl with the ponytail from years ago, waving at her under the sunlight. "Evelyn! Evelyn!"

Fionaโ€™s pupils dilated.

The wail of sirens pierced the air.

Evelyn mechanically followed the stretcher into the ambulance. The flatline on the heart monitor stabbed at her vision.

Defibrillation. Once, twice...

Finally, the doctor pulled the white sheet over Fionaโ€™s face.

"My condolences."

The morgue lights were stark white.

Evelyn stood in the hallway until Sebastian Valdemar pulled her into his arms. When Fionaโ€™s parents lunged at her, he shielded her firmly.

"You murderer! Give me back my daughter!"

"Fiona treated you so well, and you stole her man and her life!"

Curses exploded around her. Evelyn pressed her lips together.

"Mr. and Mrs. Valentine, I understand your grief," she said, her face ashen. "But her death had nothing to do with me."

Mrs. Valentineโ€™s trembling finger nearly touched her face. "Prove it!"

"Surveillance footage." Evelyn turned on her phone screen. "The truth is right here."

At the end of the hallway, police sirens grew louder.
