Chapter 191

The sunlight was blinding.

Sebastian Valdemar gripped Evelyn Roland's trembling wrist. "Don't be afraid. We'll get Hugo back."

The shard of glass glinted dangerously in the madwoman's hand.

They exchanged a glance, but before they could react, the woman suddenly bolted with Hugo in her arms.

"After her!"

Evelyn's heart pounded so hard it threatened to burst from her chest.

After several turns, they were led to the most desolate corner of the amusement park.

The woman whirled around, the jagged glass aimed at their throats.

"Let's talk this through," Evelyn stepped forward, softening her voice.

"Liar! You're all out to get me!" The woman let out a hysterical laugh, her eyes unfocused.

Sebastian moved silently behind her.

"Why would we hurt you?" Evelyn inched closer. "Put the glass down, okay?"

The woman suddenly snarled, "Tell me! Do I look crazy to you?"

The shout made Evelyn's ears ring.

"You're perfectly fine," she steadied her breathing. "Careful, you might cut yourself."

The woman glanced down at the weapon in her hand.

Now!

Sebastian lunged forward, kicking the woman to the ground.

Evelyn seized the chance to scoop Hugo into her arms.

"It's okay, I've got you," she murmured, feeling the child's small body tremble violently against her.

After checking Hugo for injuries, she exhaled in relief.

A ragged gasp came from behind.

Hugo's eyes widened, his face pale. "S-sister! Behind you!"

Evelyn frozeโ€”this was the first time she'd heard Hugo speak a full sentence.

"What?"

"The crazy lady has a brick!" The child cried out.

Evelyn spun around.

The madwoman charged at them, a brick raised high above her head, her face twisted with rage.

She was only a step away.
