Chapter 267
Evelyn Roland offered Isabella Langley a reassuring smile, ignoring her stunned silence. "Please excuse us," she said gently. "This was supposed to be Isabella's date with Oliver Valrose. I accidentally walked into the wrong room, causing this misunderstanding."
The onlookers at the door murmured in realization before dispersing.
"So it was Isabella and Mr. Valrose all along. No wonder the invitation only had 'Langley' written on it."
"The Valrose family may not be as prestigious as the Rolands, but Oliver is quite handsome. They make a decent match."
"Let's hope it works out for them."
Isabella's face paled at the whispers. Her ears rang.
Her? With Oliver Valrose?
That playboy?
But it was too late to protest. She couldnโt possibly admit she had set Evelyn up. Swallowing her bitterness, she remained silent.
Sebastian Valdemar lingered at the edge of the crowd, observing Isabellaโs expression. He stepped aside to let others pass, his lips pressed into a thin line, amusement flickering in his eyes.
Once the crowd thinned, Olivia Valdemar finally exhaled in relief. Her pregnant belly ached from standing too long, and the commotion in Room 203 had nearly given her a fright.
Evelyn noticed her pallor and quickly helped her sit. "Olivia, are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Olivia squeezed her hand guiltily. "But you must be shaken. I shouldโve double-checked the hotel arrangements."
"This is my fault," Evelyn said remorsefully. "I ruined your lovely party."
"Just a minor hiccup." Olivia tenderly rubbed her belly. "The babyโs been calm through it all."
A shadow fell over them.
A man in his early thirties approached, dressed in an impeccably tailored suit. Though unremarkable in looks, he carried an air of mature charm. Yet something about him unsettled Evelyn.
Olivia blinked in surprise before lighting up. "Honey? How did youโ"
"Careful!" Evelyn stopped her from standing. "You shouldnโt exert yourself."
The man hurried forward, gently steadying his wife. "Easy. Iโm right here."
Olivia settled back, her eyes soft with concern. "Werenโt you in a meeting? Did you rush back? You must be exhausted."
He clasped her hand, his gaze tender. "Seeing you makes it all worth it."
