Chapter 432

Evelyn Roland slid her hands into her trench coat pockets, her gaze sweeping indifferently across the lab.

"What did you say?"

The two researchers frowned in unison, displeasure written across their faces.

"Move aside."

Evelyn took a step forward, but they immediately blocked the workstation. This was a restricted areaโ€”and to make matters worse, this outsider was a woman.

Her words had clearly questioned their expertise.

"What do you know about lab procedures?" one of them snapped, his expression darkening. "Get out before you waste our time."

The other pointed toward the exit. "Leave now, or we'll call security."

When they turned to Scarlett Galatea, their tone instantly shifted to deference. "Miss Galatea, the experiment requires a quiet environment. Please excuse us."

Their change in demeanor was almost theatrical.

Scarlett hid her satisfaction behind a mask of concern. "Miss Roland, perhaps we should wait outside."

Evelyn's lips curved slightly. "Fine."

In the hallway, Scarlett adopted a patronizing tone. "Theyโ€™re just like that. Donโ€™t take it personally."

"Doesnโ€™t matter." Evelyn's eyes darkened.

Scarlett hadnโ€™t expected such indifference and faltered.

"Would you like to have lunch together?"

"No need." Evelynโ€™s refusal was crisp.

Scarlettโ€™s smile stiffened.

"Iโ€™ll eat at the employee cafeteria," Evelyn added.

Scarlett forced a laugh. "Perfect. Iโ€™ve been meaning to try Valdemar Groupโ€™s food."

Their entrance into the cafeteria caused a stir.

Scarlett cut her steak with exaggerated grace. "Congratulations on making the Fortune Ranking."

"Thanks." Evelyn didnโ€™t look up.

The silence thickened.

"Iโ€™m done." Evelyn stood. "Enjoy your meal, Miss Galatea."

As she left, she spotted Daniel and David Murphy in heated discussion with their colleagues.
