Chapter 73
Vincent Lowell heaved a heavy sigh. "What can we do now that he's dead?"
"What does death matter?" Margaret Hill's eyes glinted with malice. "Didn't that wretch care most about the old man's belongings?"
The sudden ring of a phone cut through the tension.
Evelyn Roland's fingers trembled slightly as she gripped her phone.
She never imagined the Lowells could stoop so low.
"Aren't you afraid of karma?" Her voice was icy.
Vincent scoffed. "Karma? The old man couldn't touch us when he was alive."
Margaret added with a sneer, "Besides, we're just helping the Lowell family through tough times."
Evelyn clenched her fists.
Her nails dug deep into her palms.
"Fine." She suddenly relented. "I'll beg Sebastian Valdemar."
A shadow flickered in her eyes.
"But you must guarantee Grandpa's belongings remain untouched."
Margaret grew wary. "Words mean nothing. Record your conversation with Mr. Valdemar."
"Agreed." Evelyn's tone was frigid. "But if I find even a scratch on those items..."
She left the threat hanging.
As she turned to leave, Vincent blocked her path.
"We'll take you there."
Evelyn's heart tightened.
They meant to monitor her.
Outside Valdemar Tower, Theodore Ashcroft spotted her.
"Miss Roland?" His brows rose in surprise.
In the CEO's office, Sebastian listened to her request and suddenly smiled.
"Interesting." His fingers tapped the desk. "After what Victoria did to you, you're pleading for her?"
Evelyn pressed her lips together.
"I recall..." Sebastian studied her with a meaningful gaze. "You're not the forgiving type."
Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, harsh and bright.
She narrowed her eyes slightly.
"You flatter me, Mr. Valdemar." Her voice was soft. "This is merely a transaction."
