Chapter 38

Mr. Evans' phone suddenly vibrated.

He frowned and pressed the answer button.

"Mr. Evans, we have an emergency!" His assistant's voice trembled with panic. "The Valdemar Group just sent notice terminating all our joint projects."

His fingers clenched around the phone.

"What did you say?" His voice rose sharply. "Valdemar is canceling our contracts?"

"It's confirmed." The assistant's voice shook. "The order came directly from Mr. Valdemar himself."

A vein pulsed at Mr. Evans' temple.

"Arrange a meeting with Sebastian Valdemar immediately." He commanded through gritted teeth.

After hanging up, his expression darkened like a thunderstorm. Valdemar's contracts were worth millions. The financial impact would be catastrophic.

Meanwhile, Vincent Lowell received the same news.

"Nathan, this doesn't make sense." Vincent stubbed out his cigarette violently. "Why would Valdemar suddenly turn against both our families?"

Mr. Evans gave a cold laugh. "Someone's clearly targeting us."

The atmosphere in the private room turned glacial.

"It must be Evelyn Roland!" Victoria Lowell jumped to her feet. "Who else would come after us like this?"

Vincent snapped at her. "Don't make baseless accusations!"

"Dad!" Victoria stomped her foot in frustration. "She's jealous of my relationship with Nathan!"

Mr. Evans interjected sarcastically. "Your family certainly raised an outstanding daughter."

"And what about your playboy son?" Vincent slammed the table as he stood. "Spending every night partying!"

Mrs. Evans quickly intervened. "Enough! Our priority is salvaging these contracts."

Both families exchanged uneasy glances. Against Valdemar Group's financial might, they stood no chance.

"Nathan," Mr. Evans said suddenly. "You and Victoria should go talk to Evelyn Roland."

"Why should I beg her?" Victoria shrieked.

Mr. Evans narrowed his eyes. "Unless you'd prefer both our families to go bankrupt?"

Victoria bit her lip until it bled, nails digging into her palms. Beg that bitch for mercy? Never.
