Chapter 144

Isabella Langley called out to Sebastian Valdemar in a sugary voice, "Mr. Valdemar~ Do you know the person in charge of CH? Could you help me out, please~"

Sebastian didn't even glance at her as he stepped into the elevator.

He had come to CH under the pretense of collecting design drafts.

In truth, he wanted to see how Evelyn Roland was managing the company.

When he pushed open her office door, she had just set down her pen.

"The designs are finished. Would you like to review them, Mr. Valdemar?"

Sebastian skimmed the drawings before his gaze shifted to the window. "Your doing?"

Evelyn followed his line of sight. Isabella was jogging laps under the scorching sun.

"I don't have time for such pettiness."

She pressed the intercom. "Dylan, inform the receptionist to send her away. Tell the Langley family that if they want to discuss business, Alexander must come himself."

With KL's urgent order looming, only CH and Valdemar Group in the entire city could handle it.

Given the bad blood between the Langleys and Sebastian, CH was their only option.

But Evelyn refused to waste energy on a fool like Isabella.

Dylan Orlando reluctantly carried out the order.

Downstairs, Isabella beamed when she received the message.

She stared up at the glass facade of the top floor, her heart flutteringโ€”Mr. Valdemar must have spoken up for her!

Perhaps he wasn't as indifferent as he seemed.

Sebastian tucked away the designs. "Not planning to let the Langleys know you intervened?"

"Unnecessary." Evelyn's tone was cool. "I trust you'll keep it to yourself as well."

"Naturally." He suddenly leaned in, closing the distance between them.

The crisp scent of sandalwood enveloped her. Evelyn instinctively recoiled.

"Is something wrong?"

His gaze darkened as he abruptly seized her wrist.

The scar from the mining tunnel was stark against her skin.

"Careless, Ms. Roland?"

She yanked her hand back, hiding it behind her. "Just a scrape from the ore. No concern of yours."

"This location..." He paused meaningfully. "Be more careful."

As he turned to leave, he dialed Theodore Ashcroft. "Look into cases where human blood was used as an analgesic."

"H-human blood?!"

"Did I stutter?"

Meanwhile, Alexander Roland sat in the conference room, his expression stormy.

Through the door, a voice distorted by a modulator spoke, "Those are our terms. Your thoughts, Mr. Roland?"

"Refusing to show your faceโ€”is this CH's idea of sincerity?"

"You're free to decline." The voice carried a hint of amusement. "But KL's penalty clause..."

Alexander's fists clenched.
