Chapter 164

Twilight draped over the campus as time slipped through her fingers like sand.

On the eve of the homecoming gala, Evelyn Roland wrestled with an uncooperative zipper on her couture gown.

"Damn this zipper!" She gritted her teeth, beads of sweat forming on her forehead.

A faint rustling echoed outside the dressing room.

"Who's there?" Evelyn's muscles tensed instantly.

Sebastian Valdemar arched a brow, impressed by her sharp instincts.

"Show yourself, or I'm calling security," she threatened, voice icy.

The red velvet curtain parted, revealing a glimpse of her bare shoulder. His Adam's apple bobbed before a smirk tugged at his lips. "Fancy meeting you here, fiancรฉe."

That insufferable man again!

"Shut it!" She whirled around. "Who gave you permission to enter?"

Backlit by the fading light, his chiseled features looked razor-sharp. The tailored suit emphasized his broad shoulders and narrow waist, the loosened tie adding deliberate nonchalance.

No wonder women flocked to him.

Right now, she only wanted to wipe that smug grin off his face.

"Need assistance?" He leaned against the doorframe, gaze trailing down her exposed back.

"Get out!"

Sebastian closed the distance in two strides, his minty breath fanning her face. One hand pinned her wrists above her head while the other deftly zipped up her dress.

"Where's my thank you?" His fingers tilted her chin up.

Evelyn slapped his hand away. "Much obliged, Professor Valdemar."

Her eyes widened. "Why are you at Stanford?"

"Board invitation." He adjusted his cufflinks lazily. "Whereas you, the Roland heiress, masquerading as a studentโ€”"

"Sebastian!" She fisted his tie. "Remember our agreement."

His pupils darkened. This feisty wildcat bore no resemblance to the poised socialite in his dossier.

"How many more secrets are you hiding?"

"None of your concern." She released him, stepping back. "The engagement was terminated."

He suddenly caged her against the mirror. "Unilateral decisions don't count."

The glass chilled her back while his chest burned against her. She kicked out, only for him to trap her leg effortlessly.

"Touch me again," she hissed, eyes blazing, "and you'll leave Stanford on a stretcher."

Sebastian chuckled low. "Can't wait."

Footsteps approached outside. He freed her, whispering against her ear:

"Until tonight, fiancรฉe."
