Chapter 189

"Q...Hugo!" Henry Laurent quickly pulled his son close, his expression darkening. "Stop bothering Miss Roland."

The little boy's eyes instantly welled up with tears, his lower lip trembling.

Evelyn Roland felt her heart soften.

Those moist puppy-dog eyes reminded her of her neighbor's newborn golden retriever.

"I happen to be free today." She crouched down to meet Hugo at eye level. "Would you like to go to the amusement park?"

Hugo's eyes lit up like fireworks.

He peeked shyly at his father, tiny fingers twisting the hem of his shirt.

"This is too much trouble for you," Henry said hesitantly.

"No trouble at all." Evelyn straightened up. "It'll help with his recovery."

Sebastian Valdemar suddenly spoke. "I'm coming too."

Evelyn arched an eyebrow.

What was this man scheming now?

"Mr. Valdemar, surely you're too busyโ€”"

"Safety in numbers." Sebastian cut her off, his gaze heavy.

Hugo suddenly tugged at Evelyn's skirt.

Looking up with pleading eyes, he nodded vigorously.

"Then it's settled." Evelyn bent to scoop Hugo into her arms.

The boy immediately wrapped his arms around her neck.

Sebastian's Adam's apple bobbed as he stared at the dimple in her cheek.

"I'll have the car brought around." He turned to make the call.

Ten minutes later.

A black Rolls-Royce Phantom glided to a stop.

The chauffeur respectfully opened the rear door.

Sebastian motioned for Evelyn to enter first.

"Thank you." She climbed in with Hugo in her arms.

The man followed, settling into the backseat beside them.

The cabin filled with the faint scent of cedarwood.

Hugo pressed his nose against the window, eyes wide.

"First time at an amusement park?" Evelyn asked softly.

The boy nodded eagerly.

She ruffled his soft curls.

As the car entered the parking lot, distant screams from rollercoasters already filled the air.
