Chapter 160

The mere thought of Sebastian Valdemar's face made Evelyn Roland roll her eyes.

What a nuisance.

She immediately dismissed the idea of meeting Bianca Savigny.

The hallway was empty.

Evelyn pulled out her phone from her bag, fingers flying across the screen.

Bianca's number appeared quickly.

The call connected almost instantly.

"Sorry, something came up," Evelyn said briskly. "Let's reschedule."

A brief silence followed.

"That's alright," Bianca's voice remained gentle. "Take your time."

The response twisted Evelyn's heart.

She rubbed her nose awkwardly.

Thank God this was just a phone call.

Lying to such an innocent girl felt...

"I'll treat you next time," she added lamely.

Hanging up, Evelyn leaned against the wall and stared at the ceiling.

That bastard Sebastian!

She mentally cursed his entire family tree.

If not for him, she could've met Bianca today.

Next time they crossed paths, she'd make him pay. A dangerous smirk curled her lips.

The next morning.

The alarm blared incessantly.

Evelyn slammed it off and sat up, her hair a wild mess.

Morning classes were inhuman.

Yawning, she washed up and threw on casual wear.

The mirror reflected a girl with a high ponytail, delicate features accentuated by light makeup.

She grabbed her gold-rimmed glasses on the way out.

Thirty minutes to spare.

Plenty of time.

As her car headed toward Stanford University, Fiona Valentine walked down a narrow alley.

She was a music student.

Rapid footsteps suddenly echoed behind her.

Fiona's pulse spiked.

Someone was following her!

She quickened her pace, heels clicking sharply against the cobblestones.

But the footsteps grew closer.

This shortcut was always deserted, and today was no exception.

"Running away, sweetheart?"

A greasy voice slithered into her ear.

Fiona froze.

Too terrified to look back, she broke into a run.

Her heel caught in a crack.

"Ah!"

She crashed onto the pavement, palms burning from the impact.

"Tsk tsk. So clumsy."

A pockmarked face loomed over her.
