Chapter 252

Julian and Alexander exchanged glances before flanking Evelyn on either side, steering her toward the house while leaving Sebastian standing alone at the doorstep.

"Waitโ€”" Evelyn twisted to look back, throwing Sebastian a meaningful glance.

She was worried his injuries still needed follow-up care.

The moment they entered the living room, Sophia emerged from the kitchen with a fruit platter, settling beside her daughter.

"I heard about that Silas todayโ€”"

"Mom!" Evelyn cut her off, shaking Sophia's arm playfully. "I'm perfectly fine, thanks to my brothers arriving just in time."

She stood and twirled, her skirt flaring.

Sophia finally relaxedโ€”until her gaze landed on Sebastian lingering awkwardly in the corner. Her expression hardened.

"Mr. Valdemar, help yourself to some fruit." She set the platter on the coffee table with icy politeness.

Just as Sebastian moved to thank her, Alexander snatched the tray away.

"Mom, I haven't had any yet." He deliberately placed it at the farthest end from Sebastian, shooting him a challenging look.

Sebastian's lips quirked slightly, unfazed by the childish antics.

Amid the lively chatter, Evelyn suddenly remembered something. Swallowing a bite of apple, she asked, "Julian, what about your friendโ€”"

"Going now?" Julian's eyes lit up as he sprang to his feet. "I'll take you to the base."

Sophia caught her daughter's wrist anxiously. "So soon?"

"I'll be with her." Julian thumped his chest with a reassuring grin.

Before leaving, Evelyn made a point to approach Sebastian. "Your injuries still need rest. Contact me if anything comes up."

Sebastian nodded, watching her depart.

At the military base, clusters of soldiers huddled together.

"That's Colonel Roland's sister? Looks like an angel..."

"Shh! Keep it down!"

Julian's sharp glare scattered the gossiping troops like startled birds.

In the shadows, Wendy clenched her fists. As the base's head physician, why was some outsider being brought in to treat patients?

"Here we are." Julian stopped outside the innermost ward, hesitating. "I'll... wait out here."

He knew his sister's healing methods were unconventional.
