Chapter 47

Dorian Wayne pulled out a stack of tissues and handed them over, his eyes filled with heartache. Jessica Rubinstein was his niece, whom he had watched grow up. Seeing her get fired from the company pained him more than anyone else.

"Don't cry, Jess. Your uncle has been with KL Group for years. I won't let you suffer in vain." He patted her trembling shoulder, his voice low. "The person who did this to you will pay."

Jessica lifted her tear-streaked face, choking back sobs. "Uncle, you have to help me..."

The next morning.

Evelyn Roland had just settled into her workstation when her phone buzzed. A text from Hannah Clementson flashed on the screen: "Evelyn, I left in such a hurry yesterday that I forgot to sign my leave form. Can you help me with it?"

KL Group's policy required employees to notify HR a day in advance for leave requests. Failing to do so would affect their monthly attendance bonus.

Evelyn tapped a quick reply: "No problem. I'll handle it now."

In the HR office, a staff member handed her a form. "Fill this out and get it signed by Director Wang."

"Thanks." Evelyn took the form and completed it swiftly.

She knocked lightly on the director's office door.

"Come in."

Dorian Wayne was reviewing documents and didn't look up as he accepted the form. But when his eyes landed on the name tag, his pen froze mid-air.

"Evelyn Roland?" He narrowed his eyes, his tone turning icy. "This handwriting is illegible. Do it again."

Evelyn blinked in surprise. She had written it neatly.

"Of course. I'll rewrite it." Suppressing her confusion, she stepped out.

The second form was filled with extra care—every stroke precise, every punctuation mark exact.

Dorian Wayne scrutinized it from every angle but found no flaws. Reluctantly, he signed.

"Thank you, Director Wang." Evelyn turned to leave.

"Wait." He suddenly called her back, pointing to a pile of documents in the corner. "Take these outdated files to the shredder."

Evelyn glanced at the stack, nearly waist-high, and pressed her lips together. "Understood."

As she lifted the files, she didn't notice the cold glint in Dorian Wayne's eyes.
