Chapter 490
A faint smile played on Evelyn Roland's lips as understanding flashed in her eyes.
This silly girl really thought she couldn't see through her little scheme? Clearly, she was worried about her driving while fatigued.
"Follow me."
Bianca Savigny's eyes lit up, and she trailed behind like an eager puppy.
A black sedan pulled into the Galatea family's gated community.
Victor Galatea was at a dinner engagement when the housekeeper called. Hearing his daughter had returned home acting strangely, he immediately excused himself.
Scarlett Galatea had been sitting rigidly in her room for hours, numb to the pins and needles in her legs. The housekeeper knocked three times, but she didn't respond.
Only the insistent ringing of her phone finally stirred her.
"Hello?"
"Scarlett, come downstairs. Now."
Her father's voice brooked no argument.
The air in the living room was thick enough to choke on.
After dismissing the staff, the sprawling villa held only father and daughter.
"I heard there was an incident with a Starlight Initiative test subject?" Victor had already learned about Melanie Linton's fall and subsequent coma.
His expression darkened. "What the hell happened?"
Scarlett's heart lurched. Her face went pale. "I... I don't know."
Her eyes welled up as her voice trembled. "Dad, I only found out at the hospital. I was home all morningโyou can ask Mrs. Lefรจvre."
Victor had indeed confirmed this with the housekeeper. His expression softened slightly. "It must have shaken you. Don't worry, I'll investigate personally. The Lintons and Sebastian Valdemar will get answers."
"No!"
Scarlett shot to her feet, knocking over her glass. Scalding water splashed across her foot, drawing a sharp gasp.
"Careful!"
Victor checked quicklyโthankfully her shoe had protected her. He poured fresh hot milk and offered it.
"Dad, you can't investigate!" She ignored the drink, shaking her head frantically.
"Why not?"
Years in politics had honed Victor's instincts. His daughter's behavior sent alarm bells ringing. His gaze turned piercing.
"Dad..." Tears suddenly streamed down Scarlett's face as she clutched his sleeve. "Help me... You're all I have."
"Scarlett!" Victor's voice turned sharp. "What did you do?"
His daughter had grown increasingly unrecognizable latelyโespecially since becoming involved with Sebastian.
"I..."
Her lips moved soundlessly.
"You think this can stay hidden?" Victor's tone turned icy. "Do you know who Evelyn Roland and Sebastian Valdemar are?"
What he didn't know was that Evelyn's car was already speeding toward the hospitalโwhere the truth would soon surface.
