Chapter 375

"What a jinx. Everyone else's incense is fine, but hers is the only one that causes trouble."

"Exactly. Such bad luck."

Whispers filled the temple hall like a swarm of buzzing insects. The business tycoons had long held grudges against the Roland family, biting their tongues only because of the Blessing Ceremony's decorum. Now, with this opportunity, they eagerly piled on the criticism.

Isabella Langley's smile wavered at the edges.

Evelyn Roland's sharp gaze flickered toward the acting abbot and the novice monk.

Her wolf-like scrutiny made their hearts pound, sweat trickling down their backs.

Something was definitely off.

Sebastian Valdemar's piercing eyes followed her line of sight. Though silent, his glare alone was enough to freeze blood.

The tycoon standing opposite Sebastianโ€”one of the main instigatorsโ€”wiped his damp forehead, stammering, "M-Mr. Valdemar, Miss Roland, she..."

Dark fury churned in Sebastian's eyes, yet he remained composed. The man's knees trembled as if an invisible hand gripped his throat.

"Dad, Mom, Alex, I'm leaving."

Evelyn lifted her chin lazily, a hint of roguish defiance in her expression. The humiliation of being expelled from the temple didn't faze her.

The Roland family ached to follow her, their hearts twisting at her retreating figure.

"Dad... Mom... Brother..." Isabella panicked, reaching out to stop them.

"Stay." Evelyn paused, glancing back with calm finality. "I chose to leave."

Her gaze shifted to Isabella. The younger girl flinched at first, then inexplicably steadied herself.

Tears welled in Isabella's eyes as she clutched Sophia Roland's sleeve. "Mom, listen to her. Evelyn is doing this for the family's sake."

Evelyn's voice softened. "Stay. I need to prepare for the International Wine Tasting Championship semifinals anyway. My presence here isn't necessary. You know I hate these events."

"Evelyn, butโ€”" Sophia's eyes reddened with unshed tears.

"Mom, I'm fine." Evelyn embraced her mother, nuzzling her cheek affectionately. "You staying helps me uncover the truth."

Sophia's eyes widened. "The truth?"

"My incense was tampered with. I know it."

"Evelyn..." Sophia patted her daughter's back gently.

Edward Roland approached with his sons. Isabella trailed behind, jealousy gnawing at her until her nails dug crescent moons into her palms.

Her hatred burned like acid, yet she forced a concerned expression.

"Sister..."

"I'm leaving."

"Evelyn!" Alexander Roland moved to follow.

Sebastian stepped in his path, shaking his head. "Let her go."

"Move!"
