Chapter 23

Sebastian Valdemar's mind flashed back to that night at Le Bar du Ritz.

The scene of two spoiled heirs dragging Evelyn Roland between them.

A cold smirk curled his lips. "She plays the innocent well."

Olivia Valdemar rolled her eyes. "Since when did you become so bitter?"

"Don't tell me you've taken an interest in her?"

"Sister, since when did you start playing matchmaker?"

A secret crush?

Sebastian scoffed. In the Valdemar family, he took what he wanted by force.

Olivia gave him a knowing smile. "Stubborn. I've never seen you so fixated on a girl before."

"That's becauseโ€”" Sebastian abruptly fell silent.

He couldn't very well admit he suspected this woman had slept with him.

"Because what?" Olivia arched a brow. "Never mind. I don't want to hear your excuses. Eat your food."

Sebastian stared blankly at the insulated lunchbox.

He had been paying unusual attention to Evelyn.

KL Design Group, Third Division.

The moment Evelyn stepped into the office, she felt the weight of countless stares.

Jessica Rubinstein sneered, "Look who's backโ€”our little backdoor hire! Ready for Adrienne's storm?"

"Try not to cry, newbie."

Evelyn ignored her and walked straight to her workstation.

Hannah Clementson leaned over worriedly. "Evelyn, should I come with you to see Adrienne?"

"It's fine." Evelyn gave her hand a reassuring squeeze.

Jessica scoffed. "Hannah, such a suck-up. Too bad you picked the wrong horse."

Hannah lowered her head and resumed working without response.

Jessica's face flushed with anger.

Ever since Evelyn arrived, even the meekest girl in the office dared to defy her.

Third Design Division, Supervisor's Office.

Adrienne Klein blinked in surprise when Evelyn entered.

"Youโ€”"

She'd been ready to tear into the so-called nepotism hire.

Before she could speak, a document slid across her desk.

The bold letters of KL Design Group's contract with Valdemar Group glared up at her.

"You secured the deal?" Adrienne's voice cracked.

Evelyn nodded calmly.

Adrienne frantically flipped through the pages. Sebastian's signature and the Valdemar corporate seal stared back at her.

She looked up, stunned. "This can't be..."

What shocked her moreโ€”the design schematics had been altered.
