Chapter 137
"Evelyn..."
Edward Roland's voice shattered in the torrential rain. He knelt in the mud, his expensive suit soaked through, fingers digging deep into the earth. Twenty years of searching had led to this devastating moment.
Alexander Roland slammed his fist into the ground, knuckles bleeding. "This is all my fault..." he muttered, rain mixing with his tears as they fell.
"Boss!"
Dylan Orlando's shout cut through the storm. He lunged toward the other side of the mine like a panther, where two figures swayed precariously on the edge.
Evelyn Roland was covered in blood but clung stubbornly to the unconscious Sebastian Valdemar. The moment she spotted Dylan, her lips twitched into a faint smile before she collapsed like a broken marionette.
"Breathing's steady." Dylan's trembling fingers pressed against her neck, relief flooding him. He wrapped his coat around her and lifted his gaze, eyes sharp as daggers.
Alexander reached out, only to have his hand violently slapped away.
"Perhaps the Third Young Master should tend to his precious adopted sister instead," Dylan spat, cradling Evelyn protectively. "Weren't you in such a hurry to save Isabella when the rescue team arrived?"
The Roland family paled under the downpour.
"Move." Dylan carried Evelyn forward, each step heavy with fury. "If anything happens to her, I'll bury the entire Roland family with her."
Edward gripped Alexander's arm to stop him. "Prioritize saving lives."
The wail of ambulances pierced the night. Dylan carefully laid Evelyn onto a stretcher, then glanced at Sebastian being loaded into another vehicle. The man's chest was stained with dark bloodโlikely from...
"We need blood transfusions, stat!" A nurse's urgent call snapped him back to reality.
The hospital corridor blazed with light.
Olivia Valdemar stumbled into the room, her pregnant belly making her unsteady. She nearly collapsed at the sight of her brother's ashen face. "Have you lost your mind?" Her trembling hand brushed his forehead. "You actually went into that death trap?"
Sebastian's lashes fluttered. His cracked lips parted. "Where... is she?"
"Who?" Olivia followed his gaze to the closed emergency room across the hall. Behind the glass, the heart monitor's weak beeps flickered like a fading pulse.
