Chapter 470
Daniel straightened his posture and solemnly patted his chest. "According to the lab rat data, side effects do exist, but they're not severe. Initial symptoms may include loss of appetite and drowsiness."
These symptoms were still within manageable limits. Evelyn remained uneasy, holding the sugar-coated pill as she glanced at the brothers. "Mind if I run another test?"
The brothers scratched their heads sheepishly, shaking them like rattles. "We'd be honored! Having your oversight puts us at ease!"
In their eyes, Evelyn was nothing short of divine.
Fifteen minutes later, Evelyn closed her notebook, a gleam of triumph in her eyes. "The experiment was a success. I'll arrange human trials soon. You two can take a few days off." She paused. "Before you leave, make sure all data and samples are securely locked away."
"Don't worry!" they chorused. "We'll take shifts guarding them. No outsiders will get near."
Evelyn gave a lazy nod.
"Will you be staying, Miss Roland?" The brothers' eyes sparkled with hope. No one wanted to miss a chance to learn from the master.
"Call me if anything comes up."
As they watched her leave, the brothers reluctantly retreated into the lab.
Evelyn didnโt head out immediately. Instead, she followed Sebastian to his office.
The entire floor was silent except for the clatter of keyboards and rustling papers. Occasionally, an employee would glance up, unfazed by Evelynโs presence. Though the CEO was often accompanied by this beauty, no one dared assume romance was involved.
Her cap was pulled low, revealing only the elegant line of her jaw. Evelyn walked straight ahead, ignoring the sidelong looks.
"Sit."
The moment she settled into a chair, Theodore entered with drinks. "For the CEO'sโuh, Miss Roland, your juice." He nearly bit his tongue.
"And the CEOโs coffee."
"Leave us."
Sebastian took a sip before setting his cup aside.
Evelyn massaged her temples. "Thereโs no need to go through the trouble. I donโt visit often enough to warrant special preparations."
Every time she came to Valdemar Group, the office was stocked with fresh refreshments. The thoughtfulness left her unsettled.
Sebastianโs gaze was tender yet unyielding. "Then visit more often. The ingredients are replenished daily. If you donโt like these, we can switch to something else."
Evelyn: "..."
She took a sip of the juice. Freshly squeezedโclearly, no effort had been spared.
"This is perfect."
"Good." Sebastian smoothly changed the subject. "Leave the volunteer recruitment to me. You should rest."
Even if sheโd been scarce in the lab lately, he knew exactly how much sheโd poured into the experiment.
