Chapter 377
Sebastian's hand still held Evelyn's as they descended Mount Pilatus.
His palm was broad and warm, sending tingles through her fingertips.
"Mr. Valdemar..." Her voice came out hoarse.
He released her instantly, throat bobbing. "My apologies."
"Thank you for earlier."
"Between us, such words aren't necessary."
The statement pricked her heart like a needle.
"Alright." She arched a brow, hearing the low rumble in his chest.
They avoided discussing the temple, focusing instead on details of the International Wine Tasting Championship semifinals.
A raindrop struck Evelyn's nose.
Clear skies darkened as the downpour intensified.
Sebastian swiftly draped his suit jacket over her head. "No shelter nearby. We'll have to run."
In the deluge, his tall frame angled the makeshift canopy toward her petite form.
Evelyn inhaled his crisp cedar scentโcloser than ever before.
"Stay close." His rain-chilled breath grazed her ear.
She bit her lip, edging nearer.
His lips quirked at the sight of her flushed earlobe.
Rain soaked through his right sleeve, outlining taut muscle beneath the shirt.
"Find cover!" Her voice tightened seeing his drenched shoulder.
Thunder split the sky, illuminating the muddy path.
A figure emerged through the mist.
"Is there shelter nearby?" Evelyn stepped from beneath the jacket.
The girl eyed them warily.
"We got caught in the storm descending Mount Pilatus." Evelyn offered a smile. "I'm Evelyn Roland. This is Sebastian Valdemar."
"Alice." The girl relaxed. "Follow me."
At a modest cottage, Alice twisted her hem. "Wait here."
Under the eaves, warmth suddenly enveloped Evelyn's shoulders.
Alice handed over two faded but clean towels. "For drying off..." Her voice trailed off. "They're freshly washed."
