Chapter 339

"Mother, why is it so lively downstairs?" Isabella Langley rubbed her sleepy eyes as she descended the staircase, watching the servants bustle about.

Her heart skipped a beat. Could it be for Oliver Valrose? The thought made her lips curl into an involuntary smile.

"Your sister is returning today." Her mother didn't even glance up from polishing the vase. "Evelyn has her... particularities. Everything must be spotless."

Isabella's smile froze.

"Evelyn's coming back?" She forced a cheerful tone. "Let me help prepare her room."

"Unnecessary." Her mother finally met her gaze. "Evelyn dislikes others touching her belongings. Go have breakfast."

In the dining room, a servant arranged delicate silverware.

"Miss Isabella, I heard Miss Evelyn is bringing friends." The maid smiled. "You young ladies will have so much to talk about."

Isabella's fork clattered onto her plate.

The maid discreetly retreated.

"Evelyn Roland!" She violently overturned her breakfast tray, sending porcelain shattering across the floor.

Morning light filtered through sheer curtains at Chรขteau Blanc.

Evelyn was fastening the last button of her blouse when Bianca Savigny's energetic voice echoed outside: "Master, I'm ready!"

The foyer overflowed with giftsโ€”imported fruits, rare tonicsโ€”nearly blocking the entrance.

Meanwhile, tension thickened in the Valrose residence.

"Where is Oliver?" Oscar Valrose glared at his watch, his expression stormy.

Wendy Valrose hurried upstairs. She found her son still snoring when she threw open his door.

"Get up!" Oscar snatched a glass from the nightstand and hurled it.

"Ah!" Oliver clutched his bleeding forehead as he jolted awake.

"Thirty minutes." Oscar spat the words before dragging his wife out and slamming the door.

Oliver stared at the ceiling, then slammed his fist into the mattress.
