Chapter 204
"I'm here to see Evelyn Roland." Sebastian Valdemar's gaze followed Evelyn's retreating figure, his voice low and measured.
Edward Roland and Sophia Roland exchanged wary glances, their defenses rising at the unexpected visitor.
"My daughter isn't receiving guests," Edward stated firmly, his tone leaving no room for argument.
"You should leave," Sophia added coldly.
Upstairs, by the floor-to-ceiling window, Evelyn watched Sebastian's car disappear into the distance. She tightened her grip on the key in her hand and strode toward the brewery's ingredient vault.
"Stop right there!" A burly middle-aged man blocked the entrance, his face twisted in disdain. "This isn't a place for you."
"I'm the heir to this winery," Evelyn narrowed her eyes. "Move aside."
The man scoffed. "Who knows what underhanded tricks you used to get here?"
Hidden in the shadows, Sebastian clenched his fists until his knuckles turned white.
"Are you questioning my competence?" Evelyn's voice was icy.
Sebastian stepped forward. "Or are you questioning the owner's decision?"
Evelyn stiffened. Why couldn't this man leave her alone?
Recognition flashed across the man's face as he realized who Sebastian was, his expression paling instantly.
"Leave if you don't want to work here." Sebastian's gaze was sharp as a blade.
Whispers erupted among the gathering employees.
"Just because of them?"
"Mr. Laurent must be blind!"
"Think money makes you untouchable?"
The situation teetered on the edge of chaos.
Evelyn massaged her temples. Every encounter with Sebastian brought trouble.
"The winery is doomed..."
"All of Mr. Laurent's hard work..."
Sebastian opened his mouth to speak, but Evelyn cut him off. "Mr. Valdemar, this is my matter."
The way she addressed him made his eyes darken.
Ignoring him, Evelyn stepped into the center of the crowd.
"Everyone, listen to me."
Her clear voice gradually silenced the murmurs.
"Such a performance!" someone sneered.
"I know you don't trust me," Evelyn scanned the faces around her. "So let's make a bet."
The employees exchanged uncertain looks.
"Without using the ingredient vault, I'll double our sales within a month."
"Big words!"
"If I fail," Evelyn declared firmly, "I'll step down."
Sebastian watched her unwavering posture, a flicker of admiration in his eyes.
