Chapter 27
Evelyn Roland finally lifted her gaze, her eyes icy, the corner of her lips curling slightly.
"So?"
Victoria Lowell stepped closer in her stilettos, the hem of her dress swaying gracefully.
"Everything that was yours... now belongs to me."
She tapped Nathan Evans' chest with a manicured finger, her smile triumphant.
Hannah Clementson clenched her fists, her nails digging deep into her palms.
So this was the "real heiress" who stole Evelyn's boyfriend.
Evelyn rose slowly, the fabric of her dress sweeping in an elegant arc.
"You've taken to garbage collection quite naturally."
Her tone was light, as if discussing the weather.
Nathan's face darkened, pain flashing in his eyes.
Victoria abruptly shook off his hand, her manicure glinting coldly under the lights.
"What did you just say?"
Nathan quickly grabbed her arm. "Victoria, don't make a scene."
Yet his gaze remained fixed on Evelyn, his throat bobbing.
Evelyn suddenly laughed, her eyes frosty.
"If you two want to perform a melodrama, I suggest doing it outside the courthouse."
She turned to leave but was stopped by a sickly sweet voice.
Jessica Rubinstein sauntered over, her red lips like fire.
"I heard Miss Roland secured the Valdemar deal?"
She feigned shock, covering her mouth. "Surely not through... special means?"
Victoria's pupils constricted. "What Valdemar deal?"
Jessica leaned in, whispering just loud enough for everyone to hear.
"Someone saw her leaving Mr. Valdemar's office looking disheveled."
The ballroom fell silent.
Evelyn's fingers traced the rim of her champagne flute before she suddenly raised her hand.
Splash.
The entire glass of red wine drenched Jessica's face.
"Feeling clearer now?"
She dropped the glass. The shattering sound made Jessica shriek.
"Youโ!"
"Next time you spread rumors," Evelyn pulled out a silk handkerchief, wiping her hands with a gaze sharp as a blade,
"Make sure you've bought insurance first."
