Chapter 329
"My oversight caused you trouble."
Sebastian Valdemar's voice was low and restrained.
"I'll personally monitor Vincent Valdemar." His use of the full name carried finality.
"I'll keep my emotions in check to avoid alerting him."
The decisiveness expected from a titan who dominated the business world was chilling.
"Regardless of whether it's him in the footage, I'll probe further."
Evelyn Roland arched a delicate brow. The suggestion aligned perfectly with her intentions.
She needed to locate that staff member, and having Sebastian investigate Vincent was ideal.
"Proceed as planned."
"Ms. Roland." Sebastian suddenly smiled. "I'm not as fragile as you think."
Evelyn glanced at him, lips curving slightly. "Mind your health. Don't overexert yourself."
Warmth flickered in Sebastian's eyes.
"Sir, everything you requested is ready."
Theodore Ashcroft entered, pushing a cart laden with fresh fruits and desserts.
"Leave it here."
Sebastian rose, testing the juice glass's temperature before handing it to Evelyn. "Fresh mango."
She took a sip. "All this for me?"
Sebastian rubbed his nose awkwardly, tacitly confirming.
"Pity I must leave soon. Your kindness is wasted."
She retrieved a medicine bottle from her bag. "Take one during emotional fluctuations."
Sebastian accepted it like a treasured relic, the shadows vanishing from his brow.
After finalizing arrangements, Evelyn departed with minimal pleasantries.
"Sir?"
Long after Evelyn left, Sebastian remained motionless. Theodore called several times before he stirred.
"Are you unwell?"
"Fine. Dispose of these."
Theodore sighed at the untouched spread, wheeling the cart away.
Heavy curtains blocked sunlight in the dim room where a man slowly opened his eyes.
"Someone's investigating you. Shall I intervene?"
The man rose, drawing back the drapes. Harsh light made him squint.
The caller waited patiently.
He lit a cigar, inhaling deeply before answering with languid indifference.
"How many have tried?" Smoke obscured his smirk. "What became of them?"
Silence answered.
"After all these years, you still lack composure."
The call ended. The man toyed with his cigar, eyes glinting with amusement.
Every move had been meticulously calculated, every trace erased flawlessly.
Confident, he exhaled a perfect smoke ring. No weaknesses remained to exploit.
