Chapter 439

"Don't be scared, sweethearts. These kind people are here to play with you."

The teachers soothed the frightened children with practiced ease, their expressions calm and composed.

Evelyn Roland and Sebastian Valdemar exchanged glances, both seeing the gravity of the situation reflected in each other's eyes.

The scene before them was even more challenging than they'd anticipated.

"My deepest apologies. The children tend to get anxious around strangers," the director said hurriedly, her face etched with regret.

"It's alright," Evelyn replied softly. "What would you like us to do?"

"Please give us a moment."

After brief discussion, the director decided to move the activity to the main hall.

Inside the spacious auditorium, a dozen children sat quietly on floor mats. Teachers distributed snacks and toys. Two little girls with braids suddenly threw themselves into Evelyn's arms, leaving smudged handprints on her pristine white blouse.

Evelyn didn't even flinch.

When Sebastian attempted to approach, the children recoiled like startled fawns.

"Go away!"

A sturdy boy with round cheeks lunged forward and shoved Sebastian hard. The man stumbled backward onto the mats, his elbow scraping against the edge and leaving a bloody gash.

"Xiao Miaomiao!" a teacher gasped.

The culprit had already retreated behind the teacher, trembling violently.

"It's nothing," Sebastian said, pushing himself upright with a pale smile.

Evelyn swiftly retrieved the first aid kit and guided him to sit. "Let me bandage this first."

Her fingers moved gently as she disinfected the wound. Sebastian watched her with quiet amusement.

"Does it hurt?"

"Not when you're here."

From the corner, Xiao Miaomiao suddenly screamed, clutching his head. "Pretty people are bad! You're all bad!"

Teachers quickly ushered the distressed child away.

The remaining children grew increasingly restless.

By the time all the children were calmed, Evelyn was exhausted. Her phone screen had shattered into a spiderweb pattern, and her arms bore several scratches.

She exhaled heavily.
