Chapter 121
Evelyn Roland had just stepped into KL Design Group when a commotion caught her attention.
At the center of the crowd, Nathan Evans knelt on one knee, holding a bouquet of roses, his face filled with exaggerated devotion. Opposite him stood Isabella Langley, her flawless makeup unable to mask her ashen expression.
"Isabella, from the moment we first metโ"
"Shut up!" Isabella snapped, her nails digging into her palms.
This was supposed to be her carefully orchestrated scheme to humiliate Evelyn in public. Instead, this idiot Nathan had turned the tables on her.
Whispers rippled through the crowd. Forcing a strained smile, Isabella hissed, "Nathan, you've mistaken me for someone else."
"No!" He lunged forward desperately. "Those were all misunderstandingsโyou're the only one in my heart!"
Isabella stumbled back, nearly twisting her ankle in her heels. Then she spotted Evelyn at the edge of the crowdโthe mocking smirk on her lips made Isabella's blood run cold.
"Nathan Evans!" She finally shed her facade. "Security! Drag this lunatic out!"
Gasps erupted. The usually demure Langley heiress now looked like a spitting, feral cat.
Two guards rushed forward to restrain Nathan. He thrashed. "Isabella, how could you? We wereโ"
"Silence!" She snatched the roses from his hands and smashed them to the ground. "You think you're worthy of me?"
As petals scattered, she leaned in and whispered a single venomous word only he could hear: "Pathetic."
The guards promptly gagged him and hauled him away. The crowd parted like the Red Sea, watching the spectacle's lead actor get tossed out the doors.
Evelyn turned to leaveโuntil a sickeningly sweet voice called out: "Evelyn, darling~"
Isabella scurried over, linking arms with her, all traces of hysteria erased. "You should've told me you were coming!"
Her smile was flawless again, as if the shrieking harpy from moments ago had never existed.
