Chapter 460
The sterile operating room hummed with activity as doctors suited up in protective gear.
Metal instruments clinked sharply against trays in the hallway.
"Vitals stabilizing!" A nurse called out excitedly from the monitoring station.
Madeline Galatea's eyelids fluttered weakly before opening.
Her clouded gaze settled on a striking young woman standing nearby.
Margaret Lefรจvre stepped forward quickly. "Madam, this is Dr. Roland. She saved you."
The elderly woman studied Evelyn Roland's face with surprising intensity.
Evelyn returned the scrutiny calmly. Despite her frail condition, the matriarch's commanding presence remained undiminished.
"Let me examine you," Evelyn said coolly, her movements gentle despite her clinical tone.
Madeline suddenly grasped her hand. "Child, I owe you my life."
"Just doing my job." Evelyn deftly withdrew her hand. "You need rest. Try not to exert yourself."
In the corner, Scarlett Galatea dug her nails into her palms.
"Scarlett!" Madeline's voice rang out unexpectedly strong. "Come meet Dr. Roland."
The two young women locked eyes.
"An honor," Evelyn said with a faint smile.
Scarlett forced a tight-lipped grin.
Madeline chatted animatedly with Evelyn, oblivious to her granddaughter's strained expression.
"Where's Sebastian?" the matriarch asked suddenly.
Heavy footsteps approached from the corridor.
Sebastian Valdemar strode in, his gaze immediately finding Evelyn.
"You're looking much better, Madam," he remarked in that deep baritone.
Madeline beamed. "All thanks to you two lovebirdsโ"
"Madam!" Evelyn's ears turned pink.
Sebastian's lips twitched, though his tone remained professional. "Credit goes to Dr. Roland's medical expertise."
The room's atmosphere shifted palpably.
