Chapter 367
"Why the sudden interest in joining the company?"
Isabella Langley lowered her head, fingers twisting the hem of her dress. "Mom, Dad, I know I'm not as smart as my siblings, but I want to contribute too. I majored in finance..."
The feigned humility drew a flicker of mockery in Evelyn Roland's eyes.
Her sister's acting skills had improved.
Hollywood owed her an Oscar.
Sophia Roland and Edward Roland exchanged glances, studying Isabella for a long moment.
"I've thought this through," Isabella suddenly lifted her head, determination flashing in her eyes. "I want to build a future with Oliver Valrose. Joining the company will help me learn."
At the mention of Oliver, Evelyn's brow twitched imperceptibly.
"Are you sure?" Sophia's voice turned heavy.
The couple despised Oliver. That polished gentleman didn't even spare their daughter a second glance.
"I agree."
Evelyn's voice cut through the silence.
"Sister?" Isabella gaped, disbelief written across her face.
"Evelyn?" Her parents turned to their eldest daughter in surprise.
Evelyn's lips curved slightly. "If Isabella is serious, let her try. Starting from the bottom will be good experience."
The bottom?
Isabella's smile faltered before she forced sweetness back into it. "Thank you, Sister. You're always so kind to me."
But her eyes darkened with malice.
The decision was made. Isabella was assigned a junior supervisor role in the finance department, starting the following week.
On the second of May, the day of Mount Pilatus' annual Blessing Ceremony, the foot of the mountain swarmed with business elites.
"Everyone here?" An elderly man scanned the crowd. "Then let's begin."
The Roland family of six chatted amiably as they climbed. Oliver trailed behind like an outsider.
"Miss Roland."
A deep voice called from behind. Sebastian Valdemar had caught up, beads of sweat glistening at his temples.
"Mr. Valdemar." Evelyn nodded politely.
The surrounding tycoons stole glances. Everyone knew the Valdemar CEO's icy reputationโsince when did he chase after anyone?
The Roland brothers immediately stepped between their sister and him.
"Mind your own business, Mr. Valdemar," Alexander Roland said coldly.
Sebastian's gaze darkened, but he still reached for Evelyn's bag. "The path is steep. Let me carry this for you."
