Chapter 40

The elevator doors slid open. Benjamin Chamberlain immediately stepped forward. "Good afternoon, Ms. Langley."

Isabella Langley stormed past him in her stilettos. "Where's my brother?"

"Mr. Roland is in an international video conferenceโ€”" Before Benjamin could finish, Isabella shoved open the office doors.

The conference room fell silent. Alexander Roland's knuckles turned white around his phone. The icy aura radiating from him could be felt three meters away.

"Sir, I tried to stop herโ€”" Benjamin wiped his brow.

Alexander dismissed him with a wave and abruptly ended the call.

"Who dared upset our precious Ms. Langley?" He loosened his tie, amusement lacing his tone.

"Alexander!" Isabella hurled her designer bag onto the sofa. "They rejected me at our own company!"

"Oh?" His eyebrow arched. "Do tell."

"I wanted to join Design Team Three to work with Evelyn, but Adrienne Klein turned me down!" Her teeth clenched. "Who does she think she is?"

Alexander's gaze darkened. He knew Adrienne's reputationโ€”Design Team Three was KL's elite squad. Isabella's current skills would only embarrass herself there.

"Report to Design Team Two." His decision was final.

Isabella's eyes widened. "Why should Iโ€”"

"Team Two or home. Choose." He cut her off.

Her fists tightened. With a furious glare, she spun on her heel and marched out.

Meanwhile, in Design Team Three's workspace...

Evelyn Roland stretched after finishing her morning tasks and headed for the break room. As she reached the doorway, she collided with a distracted Hannah Clementson.

Splash!

Scalding coffee drenched Evelyn's pristine white suit.

"I'm so sorry!" Hannah fumbled for napkins.

Evelyn took them calmly. "It's fine. I've got it."

Her hands paused mid-wipe. This was Hannah's third distracted moment today.

"Is everything alright?" Evelyn asked softly.

Hannah forced a smile. "N-nothing. Just didn't sleep well..."

Her phone buzzed. The screen lit upโ€”Hannah's face drained of color.
