Chapter 466

Alexander Roland met his sister Evelyn's amused gaze, his knees inexplicably weakening.

He quickly slung an arm around her shoulders, forcing a playful shake. "Come on, let's grab lunch. I've been waiting in the car so long I'm starving."

"Serves you right."

Her merciless three-word reply made his expression shift.

"I'm serious."

As they walked toward the winery, he lowered his voice, probing again. "Evelyn, were you at the winery all morning? Didn't leave?"

Here we go again.

Evelyn stopped walking, her almond eyes locking onto his. "I left a note. Didn't you read it?"

"I did."

He wouldn't dare admit he'd read it and still doubted her.

That would earn him an immediate scolding.

"Hurry up."

Alexander quickened his pace, feigning starvation.

Evelyn studied him for a moment before lazily curling her lips. "Fine."

The restaurant was already set with an exquisite lunch spread, the artful plating whetting their appetites.

"Sit."

"Where's your little apprentice?"

"She had business elsewhere."

Hearing Bianca wasn't around, he visibly relaxed.

"Alexander, have some tea."

The warm tea soothed his throat.

"Alexander, stop looking. It's just us."

Caught, his ears tinged pink.

"I wasn'tโ€”just admiring the winery decor. Heh."

"Really?"

"Let's eat."

He hastily served her food, changing the subject.

"Not as good as your apprentice's cooking," he remarked after one bite.

"Good memory. But Bianca only cooks when she's in the mood."

Alexander choked.

Right. Better focus on eating.

Evelyn set down her cup. "Next time she cooks, I'll call you."

"Definitely call me!"

After the meal, Alexander slumped in his chair, too full to move.

"Want to help me take inventory in the cellar this afternoon?"

Since surveillance was his real purpose, he agreed instantly.

Casually, he asked, "Your business partner not joining?"

"You'll find out this afternoon."

Seeing her evasion, he dropped the subject.

With him keeping watch, nothing could go wrong.

He sighed inwardly, missing the message Evelyn was sending.

"Don't come to the winery today."

Sebastian Valdemar replied instantly with three question marks.

Evelyn: "I'll explain later. Just do it."

Sebastian: "As you say."

Satisfied, she pocketed her phone.
