Chapter 15
"I was wrong, Sebastian..."
Isabella Langley's eyes were red-rimmed, her voice trembling as her delicate fingers clutched at Sebastian Valdemar's sleeve.
Sebastian's sharp brows furrowed slightly before he coldly shook off her hand.
"Filthy."
He pulled out a handkerchief and meticulously wiped the spot she had touched.
Edward Roland's face darkened with suppressed fury. After all, it was his daughter who had committed those disgraceful acts first.
"Isabella!" Sophia Roland yanked her daughter back, hissing under her breath, "Haven't you humiliated us enough?"
Alexander Roland stepped forward, his voice low. "Since Mr. Valdemar insists on canceling the engagement, the Roland family has no objections."
Sebastian's long fingers tapped lightly against the armrest of the sofa, a dark glint flashing in his eyes.
"You misunderstand, Mr. Roland."
He lifted his gaze, sharp as a blade.
"I'm calling off the engagement with Isabella Langley."
The room fell so silent you could hear a pin drop.
"I heard the Roland family has found their biological daughter?" Sebastian's lips curved slightly. "According to the agreement between our families, she is my fiancรฉe."
Sophia's face twisted. "Absolutely not! That girl grew up in the countrysideโshe's unworthy of the Valdemar family!"
Her voice cracked with desperation.
From the shadows of the staircase, Evelyn Roland held her breath, her nails digging into her palms.
This lunatic!
She had no intention of marrying a dying man and becoming a widow.
"Where is she?" Sebastian scanned the room, his gaze lingering on the stairwell.
"She's not home!" Sophia blurted.
Sebastian studied her for a moment before standing and straightening his suit.
"I expect to see her in three days."
With that, he strode out, his posture as unyielding as a pine tree.
Isabella collapsed to the floor, tears blurring her vision.
She couldn't accept this!
She had been so close to becoming Mrs. Valdemarโonly for that country bumpkin to steal everything from her!
"Isabella, don't cry." Edward helped his daughter up, his voice tender. "He's not worth it."
Isabella bit her lip and nodded, but resentment churned in her eyes.
She would never let that bitch get her way.
Upstairs, Evelyn silently retreated to her room.
She studied her reflection in the mirror, a cold smirk playing on her lips.
He wanted to marry her?
Fine. Let's see who outplays whom.
