Chapter 488
Scarlett Galatea's nails dug deep into her palms.
She bit her lower lip hard to stifle the furious scream rising in her throat.
Since childhood, she had been the treasured jewel of the Galatea family. Her parents had never so much as raised their voices at her, let alone humiliated her in public.
Who did Evelyn Roland think she was?
Scarlett stole a glance toward Sebastian Valdemar, only to find his gaze fixed on the retreating figure.
"Stop!"
Mrs. Linton stumbled forward, her voice trembling.
Evelyn paused mid-step without turning. "I'll get to the bottom of Melanie Linton's case," she said coldly before walking away.
Around the corridor corner, Scarlett's shoulders shook slightly.
She heard the crisp snap of her meticulously manicured nails breaking.
"Keep an eye on them."
Sebastian issued the order in a clipped tone before striding after Evelyn.
"Sebastian..."
Scarlett's call dissolved into empty air.
At the hospital entrance, Evelyn was on a phone call. Sebastian followed silently, maintaining a three-step distance.
Theodore Ashcroft hovered between them, wringing his hands.
The tension was thicker than an operating room's silence.
In the parking lot, the moment Evelyn pulled open her car door, Sebastian slid into the passenger seat.
"Your Maybach is parked next door."
Evelyn massaged her temples. The relentless schedule had left her eyes bloodshot.
"Is this how we're speaking now?" Sebastian's Adam's apple bobbed, his voice rough.
"Did you enjoy Miss Galatea's performance earlier?"
Evelyn tilted her head, her gaze glacial.
"I'll handle it." Sebastian pulled out his phone. "But could you unblock me first?"
He'd only discovered that morning he'd been blocked for three days.
"As you wish."
With brisk movements, Evelyn tapped her screen and flashed it before him.
"I chose the Lintons because I trust your medical expertise." Sebastian suddenly gripped her wrist. "Theodore and Ruby's cases prove that."
A humorless laugh escaped Evelyn's lips.
"Finished?" She withdrew her hand. "Get out."
In the glow of taillights, Sebastian stood motionless, watching the black SUV disappear.
Three days ago, Evelyn's last message surfaced in his memory:
