Chapter 170

"Alexander, what's wrong?" Isabella Langley suddenly interrupted.

"Your expression just now..."

"What about my expression?" She tilted her head, feigning innocence.

Alexander Roland frowned. He'd clearly caught a flicker of jealousy in his sister's eyes. But it vanished as quickly as it appearedโ€”almost like an illusion.

"Never mind."

Isabella's heart raced. Had he noticed? Impossible. Her mask was flawless.

She needed to change the subject.

"Mom, Dad," she turned to her parents with a worried look, "I'm so concerned about Evelyn. What if she really..." She trailed off deliberately.

On stage, Evelyn Roland watched coldly. Her sister was performing again.

The music professor slammed his hand on the table. "Evelyn couldn't have faked it! I saw her finger technique clearly!"

Warmth flickered in Evelyn's chest. At least someone was defending her honestly.

"Since there are doubts," she said calmly, "I can play it again. Or you may choose any piece from the same series at random."

The audience erupted in murmurs.

The same series? Those were professional-level compositions!

"Fine!" Isabella agreed eagerly, already anticipating Evelyn's humiliation.

Evelyn handed the microphone to the host and seated herself gracefully. Her slender fingers brushed the keys, and the familiar melody flowed once more.

Then, with seamless transition, she shifted into the audience's requested piece. Notes cascaded like a mountain spring, transporting everyone to a serene valley.

As the final note faded, silence gripped the hall.

Then thunderous applause exploded.

Sebastian Valdemar's lips curved. This woman never failed to surprise him.

Isabella's face turned ashen, her nails digging into her palms. She couldn't stay another second, excusing herself with claims of illness.

Fiona Valentine seethed. She'd hoped to see Evelyn humiliated, but instead the girl had shone brilliantlyโ€”even capturing Sebastian's attention.

After the gala, Evelyn sought out Fiona.

"Don't lose heart," she said gently. "There will be other opportunities."

"Thank you, senior." Fiona forced a smile, venom flashing in her eyes.

As the crowd dispersed, Evelyn rejoined her family.

"Evelyn!" Sophia Roland embraced her daughter tearfully. "I'm so proud of you!"

Edward and Alexander beamed with equal pride.
