Chapter 59

In mere moments, Nathaniel realized Evelyn had become someone he barely recognized.

Victoria smirked, "It's always the same story, isn't it? Men love playing hero when girls bat their eyelashes and call them 'big brother' in that sickeningly sweet voice."

Several of Evelyn's so-called brothers suddenly appeared, seizing control of Margaret's assets. A physical altercation nearly broke out.

Victoria was certain these men weren't just ordinary "brothers" to Evelyn.

Nathaniel narrowed his eyes, remembering the mysterious man who'd arrived in a helicopter for Evelyn, and the anonymous benefactor who'd paid a decade's worth of medical bills. Even now, their identities remained unknown.

Could they be part of Evelyn's brotherhood?

Evelyn wouldn't tolerate insults toward her brothers. "Abigail, escort them out. If they cause trouble, alert security to call the police."

Victoria scowled. "Evelyn, you ungrateful brat! You deserve to be punished!"

Dorothy collapsed dramatically on the floor. "Heavens! What sin did I commit to deserve such a granddaughter? The moment she married rich, she abandoned her own family!"

Abigail stood frozen, unfamiliar with such chaotic family drama.

Evelyn burned with humiliation.

Nathaniel grabbed the nearest ceramic mug and smashed it against the floor.

"Evelyn told you to leave," he roared. "Now get out!"

His anger transformed him into an intimidating figure.

Evelyn turned to Nathaniel in shock. Was he... defending her?

The sudden outburst successfully silenced Dorothy's theatrics.

Seeing Nathaniel's fury, the older woman scrambled up and made a noisy exit.

Victoria, equally intimidated, decided silence was wisest and followed Dorothy out.

Peace returned to the penthouse.

Evelyn stared at the shattered ceramic pieces and gave a bitter smile. "Go ahead, laugh at me."

Yes, her adoptive family was absurd and unreasonable.

Margaret had protected her for three years, but Beverly and Dorothy had finally discovered the truth.

The secret was out.

Perhaps she'd carelessly revealed too much in those joyful social media posts.

Nathaniel considered the situation. "Knowing your adoptive parents, they won't stop until they get money from you. I can arrange legal representation to handle this."

"No need." Evelyn refused immediately. She could ask Andrew for assistance.

Nathaniel's expression darkened. "Why? Because my lawyers aren't good enough?"

"Don't misunderstand. I have legal contacts too. I don't want to impose on you."

Nathaniel clenched his jaw. "Another one of your 'brothers,' I presume?"

Evelyn nodded. "Yes."

Andrew had always helped her.

All her brothers were incredibly supportive.

Nathaniel yanked his tie loose in frustration at her confirmation.

"How very... attentive of him. The helicopter rides, five-star hotels, medical bills, now legal protection." His voice dripped with sarcasm. "Your 'brother' certainly knows how to pamper a woman."

No wonder Evelyn wanted a divorce. She'd already found her replacement!

Evelyn paled. "What medical bills?"

Nathaniel scoffed. "Playing innocent now? Isn't that your whole act - the vulnerable damsel attracting white knights? Congratulations on finding your personal ATM."

Evelyn froze.

So Nathaniel believed Victoria's accusations. He thought she'd moved on with someone else.
