Chapter 169

Evelyn exhaled softly. "No, Harrison merely did me a small favor, that's all," she said quietly.

The vague statement from Harrison had worked better than she'd anticipated.

Jonathan's sharp gaze lingered on her. "Evelyn, I never realized you were acquainted with Harrison Sinclair!" he exclaimed.

Evelyn shot a glance at Cassandra, whose expression had darkened with displeasure.

"Honestly, having Harrison's support doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things," Evelyn remarked, a hint of sarcasm lacing her words.

Cassandra's jealousy flared at the comment.

After all, she was just as accomplished as Evelynโ€”so why did Evelyn always seem to have connections with people like the famous Harrison Sinclair?

Evelyn checked the time. Their guests would be arriving soon.

She forced a polite smile toward Cassandra. "Jonathan, don't worry. I'll explain everything later."

"Evelyn, if you have proof, just show it now," Jonathan suggested, suspicion creeping into his tone.

"It's not the right moment yet."

Cassandra scoffed. "You keep claiming you have evidence, yet you refuse to present it. Who would believe you? Harrison is just an actor, after all."

"In this industry, he probably slept his way to the top. His endorsement doesnโ€™t clear your name."

Evelyn's eyes narrowed. "Cassandra, your breath reeks. Did you forget basic hygiene this morning? Harrison earned his success through talent."

"Spreading baseless rumors reflects poorly on you. Did your mother never teach you manners?"

She wouldnโ€™t let anyone slander Harrisonโ€™s reputation. Daniel had worked as his stunt double for yearsโ€”both of them had poured effort into their careers.

Cassandra raised her chin defiantly. "Oh, touched a nerve, did I? Or are you just guilty?"

Evelyn inhaled deeply. Some people didnโ€™t deserve sympathy.

She had given Cassandra multiple chances to come clean.

But now, with the evidence about to go public, Cassandraโ€™s reputation would be ruined for good.

Some people were beyond redemption. Cassandra was proof of that.

Turning to Jonathan, Evelyn said, "You're right. I'll upload the evidence now. The truth will come out."

Jonathan nodded. "Good idea."

Cassandra smirked. "Go ahead. Letโ€™s all see this so-called proof."

She was certain Evelyn was bluffing. If there was real evidence, Evelyn would have revealed it long ago.

How could she stay so calm otherwise? Cassandra wouldnโ€™t fall for this trick.

Just then, several figures strode into the studio.

The woman leading them looked familiarโ€”Genevieve Stewart, daughter of Reginald Stewart, who had visited earlier.

Cassandraโ€™s lips curled in triumph. "Evelyn, looks like you have company."

"Since you claim to have proof, youโ€™d better explain quickly. Avoid unnecessary trouble."

Evelyn smirked coldly. "Oh, I think youโ€™ve misunderstood. The one who needs to explain isnโ€™t me."

"Not you? Then who?" Cassandraโ€™s gaze flickered toward Genevieve, unease flickering across her face.

But she quickly regained composure, convinced Genevieve was here for Evelyn.

With a smug tone, she addressed Genevieve. "Evelyn was just boasting about having evidence to clear her name."

Before she could finish, Genevieveโ€™s hand struck her cheek with a sharp crack.

Cassandra staggered, stunned. "W-Why did you hit me?"
