Chapter 213
Victoria Sinclair couldn't contain her excitement about the upcoming engagement ceremony scheduled for the day after tomorrow.
She reached for her phone and dialed Alexander Montgomery's number.
The call connected instantly, bringing a smile to her lips. "Alexander, are you swamped these days? Was it really necessary for you to personally oversee the acquisition of such a small company?"
Victoria knew Alexander had returned to Bern City to handle the deal himself.
If it wasn't significant, he wouldn't have bothered.
The thought of Evelyn Carter's luck still irked her.
If Alexander hadn't intervened at that exact moment, that old man's daughter might have taught Evelyn a harsh lesson.
Instead, Cassandra Blake had ended up as the scapegoat.
"This is business-related," Alexander replied, his tone steady and reassuring.
He would never admit that his efforts were all for Evelyn.
Not only had he flown back personally, but he had also taken over the company himself.
Victoria decided not to press further and changed the subject. "You must be wrapping up your work by now. My engagement ceremony is in two days. You and Olivia will make it, right?"
"Yes," he answered after a brief pause. "There's something I need to discuss with you after the ceremony."
Her curiosity piqued. "What is it? Don't leave me hangingโwhy not tell me now?"
"Not yet," he said firmly.
A sense of unease settled over her.
Suppressing her frustration, she sighed. "Fine. Just remember, I'll be getting married soon after the engagement. Grandmother promised to give me her collections once I'm married."
Alexander's voice turned stern. "That won't happen."
Victoria stiffened. "Why not? She promised."
"Victoria, you know those were meant for her biological granddaughterโnot you."
Angry tears welled in her eyes. "Alexander, don't I deserve to be your sister after all these years?"
She had bragged to Penelope Whitmore and others about being part of the Montgomery family.
Everyone expected her to receive lavish wedding gifts.
If Alexander refused now, what would people think?
Would they laugh at her?
His voice remained calm but firm. "Victoria, I've treated you well all these years. You haven't forgotten that, have you?"
Victoria froze.
Of course she hadn't forgotten.
But years of luxury as a Montgomery had made her push those memories aside.
In her mind, she was the true Montgomery heiress.
After all, she believed Evelyn would never return to claim her place.
Her expression darkened, but her voice stayed composed, laced with a plea. "I haven't forgotten. I know who I owe my life to. But publicly, I'm still a Montgomery. If the wedding gifts are lacking, people will mock us."
"Don't worry. I won't let you down. But Grandmother's collections? Forget about them. That's her final wish."
Besides, the Montgomery brothers had already found their long-lost sister.
Those treasures belonged to Evelyn.
Victoria clenched her fists, forcing herself to stay calm. "Fine. Understood. Just don't forget to come the day after tomorrow."
"We'll be there. All three of us."
A flicker of surprise crossed her face. "Really? Even Nathaniel? Thank you, Alexander."
She hadn't expected Nathaniel Whitmore to attend.
Alexander always kept his word.
The call ended.
The moment the line disconnected, her smile vanished.
Thoughts of the wedding gifts consumed her.
Fury overtook her.
Like a storm unleashed, she destroyed everything in sight.
Why couldn't she have those assets?
Why?
