Chapter 277
The moment had come.
After lengthy discussions with Andrew and Christopher, Daniel and his brothers reached a unanimous decisionโit was time to drop their pretense of financial struggle.
Evelyn deserved to know they could be her unshakable pillars of support.
Christopher nodded in agreement with Andrew's words. "Evelyn, your brothers and I are now in a stable financial position. Sebastian's company has also successfully gone public."
"With these developments, our family is no longer lacking in resources. From now on, you can buy whatever your heart desires without hesitation."
Evelyn was momentarily speechless, overwhelmed by their sincerity. "Then Iโll work even harder," she finally said. "I want to become a renowned designerโsomeone who wonโt be a burden to any of you."
Hearing her determined words, Daniel felt his eyes sting. They had hoped she would lean on them, but her fierce independence and ambition left them both surprised and deeply moved.
How could she be so relentlessly hardworking and yet so utterly endearing?
As dusk settled, Alexander, Sebastian, and Julian returned home to find Evelyn preparing a celebratory feast in their honor.
Raising her teacup, she beamed. "Tonight, I toast to my brothers with tea instead of wine. May your paths to success be swift and prosperous. Cheers!"
Though Alexander was slightly irked that his younger brothers had acted without consulting him, seeing Evelynโs radiant happiness made him question whether keeping his own wealth a secret had been the right choice.
Olivia gently took Evelynโs hand. "Darling, leave the pursuit of wealth to your brothers. Like me, you should enjoy the comforts of home and indulge in shopping."
"Thereโs no need for you to exhaust yourself. Youโre the treasured princess of this family."
Alexander nodded firmly. "Exactly. Once you return to Nord City with us, you wonโt have to work so hard anymore."
Then, without warning, Daniel slid a bank card across the table. "Evelyn, thereโs enough here to pay off your mortgage. I have more than enough to spare."
One by one, the Montgomery brothers followed suit, each presenting her with their own cards. "Consider this our heartfelt gesture," Julian said softly. "Please accept it."
Evelyn stared at the six gleaming cards, momentarily stunned. After a brief pause, she smiled and gathered them all. "Alright, I wonโt hold back then."
She understood their intentionsโthis was their way of making amends. Rejecting their generosity would only hurt them.
Truthfully, Evelyn had long let go of past grievances. She had fully embraced the joy of having brothers who cherished her.
Later that night, after her usual routine, Evelyn laid the six bank cards on her dresser.
A thought crossed her mindโVictoriaโs endless bragging about her own brothers. With a smirk, Evelyn snapped a photo and posted it on her social media with the caption: Lifeโs ultimate goal: Work hard today, be a wealthy woman tomorrow.
A satisfied smile curved her lips. Now, she too had brothers who spoiled her relentlessly.
Meanwhile, Nathaniel had just finished a grueling meeting. As he scrolled through his notifications, Evelynโs latest post caught his eye.
Against his better judgment, he tapped on her profile and saw the photo of the bank cards.
His expression darkened as he read her caption. Since when had Evelynโs values become so materialistic?
What unsettled him more was Eleanorโs immediate like and comment: "Well said, darling."
Nathanielโs grip on his phone tightened.
Before he could process his irritation, Eleanorโs call came through. He adjusted his tie and answered with forced calm. "Hello, Grandmother."
"Nathaniel, I never took you for the romantic type," Eleanor teased.
His brows furrowed. "What do you mean?"
"I saw Evelynโs post. Those bank cards are from you, arenโt they? Now that sheโs expecting, you should spoil her more."
"While Evelyn isnโt materialistic, every woman adores thoughtful surprises from her husband."
