"Your second brother, Sebastian Montgomery, is an exceptional software engineer. His cybersecurity firm has won multiple industry awards for developing cutting-edge protection systems," Alexander explained.

"Your third brother, Julian Montgomery, works with international wildlife conservation groups. He rehabilitates injured animals and educates communities about coexisting with nature."

"Your eldest cousin, Christopher Montgomery, teaches music at a prestigious academy. Your second cousin, Andrew Montgomery, practices corporate law. And your youngest cousin, Daniel Montgomery, is building his acting career through theater productions."

Alexander felt pleased with his carefully worded explanations. Technically, he hadn't lied to Evelyn.

Sebastian was indeed a brilliant programmer - just happened to be one of the most sought-after white-hat hackers globally.

Julian wasn't just any veterinarian - he was a world-renowned trauma surgeon who volunteered his skills to animal sanctuaries.

Christopher gave piano lessons between sold-out concert tours at the Royal Albert Hall.

Andrew did work at a law firm - the one bearing his name as senior partner.

And Daniel's "small theater roles" were actually leading parts in Oscar-nominated films.

Evelyn nodded thoughtfully. Alexander sold properties, Sebastian coded, Julian helped animals. Christopher taught music, Andrew practiced law, and Daniel acted.

So much for her fleeting fantasy about secret wealth. Still, she felt warmth spreading through her chest at suddenly having this large, diverse family.

Margaret looked slightly disappointed by their apparent middle-class status. "We should return home after dinner. This luxury hotel must be terribly expensive. Evelyn, real estate can't be the most stable profession these days."

She decided their financial status didn't matter as long as they treated Evelyn well.

"Actually, money isn't an issue. I've had several very successful property deals recently," Alexander quickly interjected.

Evelyn squeezed Margaret's hand. "Top realtors earn excellent commissions. Since the rooms are already booked, let's enjoy one night of pampering."

After some hesitation, Margaret finally agreed.

Alexander discreetly exhaled in relief. His wife always knew how to handle delicate situations!

Following dinner, they retired to the penthouse suite. Evelyn intended to chat longer with Margaret but fell asleep almost immediately, enjoying the most restful night she'd had in years.

Her alarm startled her awake at dawn.

For three years, she'd risen at 6:30 AM daily to prepare Nathaniel's breakfast without fail.

She silenced the alarm with determination. No more sacrificing her mornings for a man who didn't appreciate her.

Moments later, her phone vibrated with a call from the one person she never expected - Nathaniel Whitmore.

In their entire marriage, he'd never once called her directly. The old Evelyn would have been overjoyed. The new Evelyn let it ring out.

When the ringing stopped, sleep eluded her. This small act of defiance left her with complicated emotions.

Another call came through - this time from the Whitmore residence. She answered reluctantly. "Yes?"

"Mrs. Whitmore, we can't locate Mr. Whitmore's navy pinstripe suit. Where might it be?"

Though she wanted to refuse, she couldn't bear the staff suffering Nathaniel's temper. "Check the far right of his walk-in closet."

Nathaniel's icy voice suddenly came on the line. "Get back here and find it yourself, Evelyn. I don't allow staff in my private quarters."

His entitled tone made her blood boil. "We're getting divorced, Mr. Whitmore. Let Victoria fetch your clothes for once."
