Chapter 223
Evelyn glared at Beverly with icy determination. "Because the deed is in Aunt Margaret's name."
Beverly faltered, her eyes darting to Cassandra for support. "Ms. Blake, didnโt you say last time that weโre entitled to a share of the inheritance?"
"Youโre an educated woman. Explain it to them."
Cassandra shrank back, intimidated by the bodyguards flanking Evelyn.
Despite Optima Constructionโs recent collapse, Evelynโs demolition project had been seamlessly taken over by Vista Properties.
Green with envy, Cassandra snapped, "Thatโs right. Mr. and Mrs. Simmons have every right to claim this property."
No matter what, she wouldnโt let Evelyn walk away with the new house and compensation. Why should Evelyn get everything while she got nothing?
Evelyn exhaled sharply. "But Uncle Benjamin is still alive. Aunt Margaret has been covering his medical bills all these years while heโs been hospitalized."
"She visits him regularly too. The compensation from this demolition will go toward his treatment."
The neighbors murmured in agreement. "This house belonged to Benjamin first. Walter has no right to contest it."
"The Simmonses have always been like this. At first, they didnโt care about the houseโonly the money."
"Yet Benjamin took the house without demanding a cent."
"Now that the old place is being demolished, they show up out of nowhere, demanding compensation. What kind of sense does that make?"
The crowd buzzed, unraveling the past.
Walter and Beverly exchanged guilty glances. The thought of losing even a fraction of the compensation was unbearable.
Desperate, Beverly wailed, "Do you know how much James borrowed from us for his treatment? He never paid it back!"
"This compensation belongs to us!"
Walter snarled, "If anyone tries to stop us, Iโll fight them right here!"
"Iโll make sure no one gets a single penny, even if it kills me!"
The couple erupted into a spectacle, causing chaos.
Cassandra lingered, stoking the flames, determined to halt the demolition.
Nathaniel exchanged a glance with Maxwell, who immediately understood.
Maxwell raised his voice. "If you have concerns, letโs discuss them at the office."
"Donโt hold up the others who are here to sign."
The neighbors chimed in. "Exactly, move aside!"
A group of sharply dressed men materialized, swiftly escorting Walter and Beverly away. Cassandra was dragged along with them.
Maxwell lifted the megaphone. "Everyone, continue lining up to sign. The compensation terms are even better now."
"Ask any questions here."
For a moment, no one moved, wary of being shortchanged.
But Margaret stepped forward. "Iโll sign first. Hereโs my bank card."
She was determined to secure the money before Walter and Beverly could interfere.
Evelyn didnโt stop her. Instead, she double-checked the bank details.
Once the signing was done, Margaret clutched Evelynโs hand. "Evelyn, is this enough? They canโt change anything now, can they?"
"No. Vista Properties has strict policies."
"Good."
Evelyn turned to her six brothers. "Letโs go. Weโre done here."
