Chapter 417

Nathaniel stared at the missed call notification, his fingers hovering over the screen. He could already imagine why Evelyn was trying to reach him.

Gregory hesitated before responding, "It's your call."

Nathaniel frowned, his expression conflicted. "What if she asks about the divorce settlement? What do I say?"

Gregory sighed, rubbing his temples. "Just answer honestly. Or donโ€™t. Either way, youโ€™re digging your own grave here."

The situation was undeniably tense.

After a long pause, Nathaniel set his phone down without returning the call.

Gregory raised an eyebrow. "Youโ€™re not going to call her back?"

Nathaniel smirked, though there was a flicker of uncertainty in his eyes. "Let her come to me first."

"You really think thatโ€™s a good idea?"

"With the amount of money she just inherited, she wonโ€™t be able to sleep tonight. Sheโ€™ll reach out," Nathaniel said, though he knew Evelyn wasnโ€™t the type to be swayed by wealth.

Gregory exhaled sharply, shaking his head.

At first, he had assumed Nathanielโ€™s feelings for Evelyn were fleetingโ€”just another passing infatuation.

But now, watching Nathanielโ€™s stubbornness, it was clear his emotions ran much deeper than Gregory had realized.

The next morning, Evelyn woke up and immediately checked her phone.

Still no response from Nathaniel.

She had tried calling him last night, but when he didnโ€™t answer, she assumed he was in a meeting. She had waited, expecting him to call back, but eventually, exhaustion overtook her.

Now, with the morning light streaming through her window, she was met with the same silence.

What was Nathaniel thinking?

He had to know the divorce agreement had granted her full control of Whitmore Enterprises, stripping him of his power.

Yet, he didnโ€™t seem the least bit concerned.

Meanwhile, Evelyn couldnโ€™t shake her unease. These werenโ€™t assets she had any right to claim.

Worse, if word got out about the sudden shift in shares, it could destabilize the companyโ€™s stock.

And if Eleanor found out? The truth about their divorce would be exposed.

Noโ€”she had to handle this carefully.

Evelyn headed straight to campus that morning.

With the music showcase approaching, she needed to oversee the final preparations herself.

She couldnโ€™t afford any last-minute sabotage, especially not from Victoria Sinclair.

The university had spared no expense for the event, and the setup was nearly complete.

Evelyn surveyed the hall, satisfied with the progress. Most of the decorations were in place, leaving just minor details to finalize.

At noon, she made her way to the music building to practice.

And of course, she ran straight into Victoria.

Evelyn suppressed a groan. Why did it feel like Victoria was always lurking wherever she went?

Victoria smirked. "Here to practice in secret again, Evelyn? You should really give up."

Charlotte Ellington, standing beside her, added with a sneer, "Why embarrass yourself? Youโ€™ll never compare to the real musicians here."

Evelyn arched a brow. "Do you know why Edwin Girodโ€™s grandfather lived so long?"

Victoria blinked. "What does that have to do with anything?"

Charlotte scoffed. "Yeah, whatโ€™s your point?"

Evelyn smiled sweetly. "Because he minded his own business."

Then she walked past them without another word.
