Chapter 287
Nathaniel's pride took a sharp blow. His expression hardened as he spoke. "I'm concerned Evelyn might be getting scammed. Eleanor will worry too. This isn't just about Evelyn."
Robert sighed, exasperated.
Nathaniel had a habit of saying things he didnโt mean when it came to women.
Ever since Evelyn had accepted his divorce proposal without protest, heโd been acting unlike himself.
Meanwhile, Evelyn followed Julian out of the private hospital.
Settling into the passenger seat, she stole a glance at him. "Julian, how did the meeting go?"
"Good. The surgery is set for three days from now."
The mention of the schedule snapped her back to focus, her expression serious. "Julian, this surgery has to succeed. Eleanor means everything to me."
"Donโt worry. Iโll give it my all." Determination burned in his eyes.
For Evelyn, who cherished Eleanor so deeply, he would do everything in his power to save her.
That way, nothing from the Whitmore family could hold Evelyn back anymore.
A soft smile curved her lips. "I feel better hearing you say that."
"Come live in Nord City with us, Evelyn. Start fresh with your baby. Stay far away from the Whitmores."
"I will, but not yet."
Julian frowned. "Whatโs stopping you?"
She shook her head. "I need to finish my college credits first. Once Eleanor recovers, Iโll talk to Margaret about it. Maybe in a few months, when Iโm too far along, Iโll move in with you all."
Quick calculations ran through his mind. A few months wasnโt too long. He could wait.
After arriving at the hospital, Evelyn went straight for her prenatal checkup.
During the ultrasound, the doctorโs eyes widened in surprise. "Congratulations! Iโm detecting two heartbeats. Youโre having twins."
Evelyn stared at the monitor in disbelief. "Really?"
"Yes."
Beaming, she left the room clutching the report.
Julian approached her. "Everything alright?"
"The doctor said Iโm carrying twins and ordered a blood test." Her smile was unstoppable.
"Julian, there are two babies!" She could barely contain her excitement.
He took the report, scanning it before a faint smile tugged at his lips.
He schooled his expression. "Twins are wonderful, but it also means higher risks. I still donโt fully support keeping them."
To him, Evelynโs health mattered more than the babies.
She tugged his sleeve. "Nothing will go wrong. Iโll be careful."
He exhaled. "Are you still keeping this from Alexander and the others?"
"For now. Weโll tell them once I move to Nord City." Her pleading eyes locked onto his.
Finally, he relented. "Fine. But only until then."
Alexander had no idea about the pregnancy. A few more months wouldnโt change anything.
Even if he found out now, the outcome would be the same.
Julian could already picture the futureโgetting pummeled by Alexander for Evelynโs sake.
Just then, a woman lunged forward, snatching the report from Evelynโs hands. "I knew it! Youโre pregnant, Evelyn Carter! Youโre finished now!"
Evelyn studied the masked woman, struggling to place her. "Cassandra?" she guessed.
"Thatโs right. Itโs me." The woman yanked off her mask.
It was indeed Cassandra Blake!
This was their first encounter since the demolition incident.
