Chapter 397

Christopher paused. "Well, that's also your ex-husband's fault. Even with your gentle nature, you can't tolerate him. Clearly, he's the problem."

Evelyn was kind-hearted, pure, and utterly adorable. What kind of fool wouldn't cherish such a woman? To drive her to file for divorce?

Without question, the blame lay entirely with that man.

Evelyn gave a resigned smile. "Christopher, I share some responsibility too."

She shouldn't have married Nathaniel on impulse all those years ago.

Christopher ruffled her hair affectionately. "To me, Evelyn, you're perfect! Divorce means nothing these days. I know plenty of eligible bachelors in Nord City. When you're ready, I'll arrange introductions."

"Christopher, I'm not looking for any relationships right now," Evelyn sighed.

"Exactly! Marriage is where love goes to die. You should play the field. Move on when you get bored."

Evelyn shot him an exasperated look. This was classic Christopher's perspective on romance.

After a thoughtful pause, she said, "Please don't tell the family about my divorce yet."

"Evelyn, we wouldn't judge. We'd just be furious you suffered alone. If we'd found you sooner... But if you're worried about your ex causing trouble, Andrew's a lawyer. We could make him payโ€”literally."

"That's not it. I just want a clean break. I'll be leaving soon anyway, and I want all ties with Nathaniel severed completely." Evelyn shook her head firmly.

"If that's what you want." Christopher relented. "But about Alexanderโ€”"

Evelyn understood. "I'll tell Alexander myself when we return to Nord City."

And about the baby growing inside her. Once safely in Nord City, she wouldn't need to hide anything from her brothers anymore.

Christopher nodded. "By the way, there's an exciting music festival at your university. They're hosting a prestigious piano ensemble from Nord City."

"I knowโ€”the renowned Clair de Lune ensemble. Music majors are competing fiercely for apprenticeship spots. It's a career-making opportunity." Evelyn nodded.

Christopher turned to her intently. "Evelyn, do you want to attend?"

"If time permits, I'd love to experience world-class musicianship firsthand." Her eyes sparkled with anticipation.

"That's not what I meant." Christopher leaned closer. "Do you want to join the ensemble? You've got remarkable talent. In Nord City, you could pursue music professionally."

Christopher genuinely believed in his sister's potential. Her childhood circumstances had stifled her gifts. Had she grown up with them, she'd undoubtedly be a concert pianist by now.

Evelyn looked stunned. "Christopher, I'm far too old to start. I only know basic piecesโ€”not even at a child's competition level. Joining Clair de Lune? Don't tease me."

"Evelyn, dreams matter. What if this one comes true?" Christopher's tone held hidden meaning. If she agreed, arrangements could easily be made.

He had years to nurture Evelyn into the brilliant pianist she was meant to be.
