Chapter 441

After exchanging words with Christopher, Victoria shot Evelyn a challenging look, which the latter immediately caught.

Evelyn frowned, puzzled by the meaning behind that gaze.

Moments later, Christopher approached her. "Evelyn, aren't your legs tired from standing so long?"

"Not at all. There's a chair right here." She tilted her head slightly. "Christopher, I was shocked to see your name on the guest list earlier. I thought it might be someone else with the same name."

"You never mentioned you'd be attending this concert."

"That's the whole point of a surprise." He couldn't bear the thought of just standing in the corner watching the show alone.

His brows knitted together. "Come sit with me. My seat has a better view."

She shook her head quickly. "I'm fine here. If anything comes up, I need to be available."

Christopher sighed inwardly, resigning himself to his helplessness. "Fine. When you visit Nord City next time, I'll take you to a much grander concert."

When that day came, he would proudly announce to the world that Evelyn was his kind and adorable sister. He'd organize an annual concert just for her!

Evelyn nodded quietly, watching as he walked toward the VIP seating areaโ€”only to take the spot right beside Nathaniel!

Her heart leaped into her throat. If she had accepted Christopher's offer, she would have been seated next to Nathaniel!

Then, she saw Victoria slide into the seat on Nathaniel's other side, wearing the smug expression of a victor.

The light in Evelyn's eyes dimmed as she quickly averted her gaze, forcing herself to focus on the stage decorations instead.

Meanwhile, Nathaniel stole a fleeting glance at her, his eyes swirling with unreadable emotions. He had noticed Christopher approaching Evelyn earlier. The two seemed unusually close.

Christopher shifted slightly, blocking Nathaniel's line of sight before remarking pointedly, "Mr. Whitmore, the concert is about to start. Perhaps you should pay attention to the stage."

The unspoken warning was clear: Stop looking at my sister, or else.

"That's none of your concern," Nathaniel retorted coldly.

Victoria chimed in sweetly, "Nathaniel, Mr. Montgomery and Evelyn seem quite close. He even personally oversaw the hall decorations earlier."

Nathaniel's expression darkened instantly.

Christopher was known as Nord City's playboyโ€”his girlfriends never lasted longer than three months.

Glancing at Victoria, he smirked. "Indeed. I find Evelyn exceptionally talented in designโ€”far more so than you, at least."

The insult stung. "Christopher, you must be jokingโ€”"

"Don't call me that. We're not close. I've never acknowledged your status."

Victoria paled. Her greatest fear was Nathaniel discovering she was merely an adopted child. If that happened, how could she ever marry him?

But Nathaniel didn't react, as if he hadn't heard a thing.

Relieved, Victoria decided not to provoke Christopher further. What if he exposed her secret?

Then, the concert began.

This was Evelyn's first time attending a live performance. The energy was entirely different from watching on screen. The melodies wrapped around her heart, pulling her into their rhythm.
