Chapter 224
Without the backing of Evelyn's six brothers today, Walter and Beverly would have displayed even more blatant arrogance.
Alexander's gaze settled on Evelyn as he remarked, "Vista Properties has an established protocol regarding redevelopment projects. Typically, those who sign first receive preferential treatment."
"Aside from the standard compensation, there may be additional incentives."
"Is that so?" Evelyn smiled faintly. "Whether there are or not, as long as my adoptive parents can't cause trouble, I'm satisfied."
Truthfully, she had her doubtsโespecially since Vista Properties was connected to Victoria and Alexander.
During their last encounter, Penelope had deliberately obstructed them. Would Victoria resort to similar underhanded tactics this time?
Alexander turned to her, his voice reassuring. "Evelyn, if you have any concerns, you can always confide in me."
"Alexander, do you think there's a chance Vista Properties might suddenly halt the demolition due to unforeseen issues?"
"Or perhaps manipulate the relocation records or bank details of those involved?"
"Evelyn, why would you think that? It's highly improbable. Vista Properties operates under strict regulations."
"Rest assured, I'll personally oversee this matter for you," he promised.
Evelyn fell silent for a moment before nodding. "Alright. Thank you, Alexander."
If Victoria did attempt anything behind the scenes, Evelyn wouldnโt let it slide.
Alexander's eyes flickered with confusion. Why was Evelyn so wary of Vista Properties acting covertly?
Her suspicion struck him as unusual.
After leaving, Evelyn received a call from Jonathan. "Evelyn, how did the redevelopment proceedings go?"
"Everything was settled smoothly. The paperwork is signed."
"Congratulations, my talented designer. Are you working late this afternoon? Would you like to visit the site and oversee the project you designed?"
"Of course. I'll head there right away."
Hanging up, she turned to her brothers. "I need to put in extra hours at the studio. Iโll be back in time for dinner."
Margaret smiled warmly. "Donโt worry. Iโll handle the groceries. Just focus on your workโbut be punctual tonight."
Though Alexander considered suggesting dining out, he held back upon seeing Margaret finally at ease.
Beneath her gentle demeanor, she genuinely cared for their well-being. A quiet family dinner at home seemed far more fitting.
Julian stepped forward. "Evelyn, Iโll drive you. I need to head to Peace Hospital anyway."
She climbed into his car, and as they drove, he asked, "Evelyn, are you feeling any discomfort in your stomach?"
"No, Julian, you donโt need to worry so much."
"How can I not? There were so many people earlier. If I hadnโt arrived in timeโdo you realize what could have happened?"
Evelyn playfully stuck out her tongue. "I promise it wonโt happen again."
Julian sighed, exasperated yet fond. "Whereโs your studio? Iโll drop you off."
"Itโs fine. I can take a cab. Itโs not on the way to the hospital, and itโs quite a distance."
"Iโm only going for a routine checkup. Thereโs no urgency."
Relenting, Evelyn input the wedding venueโs address into the navigation. An hour later, they arrived.
The scenery was breathtakingโlike something out of a fairy tale, perfect for an outdoor wedding.
Julian surveyed the surroundings, a flicker of recognition crossing his features. Had he seen this place before?
"Finding a taxi here wonโt be easy," he remarked. "How will you get back?"
"Iโll ride with Jonathan. With so many from the studio here, someone will have a car."
As Evelyn stepped out, she glanced upโand froze.
Not far away stood a familiar figure.
