Chapter 166
Nathaniel had already reached out to Evelyn. Why couldn't she just ask for help when she needed it?
The last time she'd called him for assistance, she'd laced her words with honey, calling him "darling" to soften him up.
Robert hesitated before asking, "Mr. Whitmore, what should we do now?"
"Do I really have to explain? Get that trending topic removed!" Nathaniel snapped, his irritation sharp.
Robert complied immediately, but soon, his team reported back.
With a puzzled frown, Robert said, "Mr. Whitmore, someone already requested the removal of the trending topic. The popularity has dropped significantly."
Nathaniel's expression darkened. "Who made the request?"
"It was Mr. Daniel Montgomery from Nord City."
At the mention of that name, Nathaniel's mood soured further. "Why are you just standing there? Keep digging. Find out who's behind this."
To Nathaniel, removing a trending topic meant little.
After all, he was in Bern City. What could Daniel, all the way in Nord City, possibly uncover?
After the call, Evelyn returned to the office, only to be met with icy glares from her colleagues.
As she reached her desk, Cassandra scoffed. "Evelyn, you actually have the nerve to show up today."
"Because of you, we had to work overtime this weekend. Your scandal dragged us all into this mess! Donโt you think you owe us an apology?"
Evelyn lifted her gaze, meeting Cassandraโs and the othersโ eyes. "I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this situation has caused."
"However, this was caused by someone spreading malicious rumors about me. I intend to get to the bottom of it and expose the truth."
A flicker of unease crossed Cassandraโs face, but remembering Penelopeโs reassurances, she regained her composure.
Even if Evelyn uncovered the truth, what could she really do?
Cassandra had Penelopeโa powerful member of the Whitmore familyโbacking her. What threat could a nobody like Evelyn possibly pose?
With a mocking smirk, Cassandra said, "Words are cheap. How do we know youโre not just lying?"
"Evelyn, if you donโt handle this properly, the women in this studio wonโt let you off easy."
Charlotte, a designer who usually sided with Cassandra, chimed in, "Exactly! Because of you, my potential suitor heard about this and ghosted me. Youโd better take responsibility!"
"Yeah, the news was everywhere on social media. Millions must have seen it by now."
Cassandra pulled out her phone, searching for the headlines. Her brows furrowed. "Waitโwhy is the post gone? It was trending just a minute ago. How did it disappear?"
The other women checked their phones, murmuring in agreement. "Itโs really gone. Not on the trending list anymore."
Cassandra blurted out, "How is that possible?"
Realizing her slip, she quickly added, "I mean, it was just at the top. How did it vanish so fast? Thatโs suspicious!"
Evelyn smiled knowingly. "Are you upset that itโs gone? Or were you hoping this would get even worse?"
Watching Cassandraโs reaction, Evelyn grew more certain of her involvement.
Cassandra straightened, snapping back, "Evelyn, donโt twist my words. Why would I want this to escalate?"
Just then, Cassandraโs phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID, her eyes darting nervously around the room.
